MSE Notes Sync to Palm Pre Memos ?

[ Edited ]

In plain black and white it state:

If you sync your Outlook notes using Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, your notes appear in Memos. If you used the Data Transfer Assistant and imported notes from Outlook on your desktop to your phone, those notes are also in Memos.

Which doesnt work, then I search further and I find this:

By default, when Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) connects with your phone via the Palm Synergy feature, memos are not synchronized.

Note In Outlook, memos are called notes.

However, you can use the Data Transfer Assistant to transfer memos from your computer to your phone. If you previously synchronized data from a Palm smartphone with a desktop organizer such as Palm Desktop® software by ACCESS or Microsoft Outlook®, Address Book, or iCal, you can do a one-way transfer of that data from the desktop organizer to your Pre phone.

I have access to both MS Exchange 2003 and 2007, notes do not sync. Palm is contradicting it self above.

Re: MSE Notes Sync to Palm Pre Memos ?

Hm, and the "Synchronization Summary Chart" page says:

http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/47817_en.html

EAS:

Email, Contacts, Calendar, and Tasks sync with the Exchange server.

Email synchronization occurs as items arrive.

Contacts, Calendar, and Tasks sync according to the following rules:

Contacts are pushed to the phone by the Exchange server when a contact is created or updated on, or removed from, the server.

Contacts are uploaded from the phone to the Exchange server when an email is sent from the Exchange account on the phone, the Exchange Inbox is opened on the phone, a manual sync is performed (in Contacts, Calendar, or Email), or a server event is received on the phone.

No mention of Notes synchronizing with the Exchange server. Based on my experience of notes synchronization under previous smartphones with Windows Mobile and Palm OS, I wouldn't expect notes to sync with the Exchange server - they've always been problematic in sync situations.

Re: MSE Notes Sync to Palm Pre Memos ?

The work around I did is created a folder that says "Notes" and used "Post It" to substitute for syncing Notes

I have a work around for getting "Notes" from Outlook to the Palm Pre.  I just copied the notes to Tasks and whamo, they appear on the Palm.

Re: MSE Notes Sync to Palm Pre Memos ?

For those of you (like me) that could not figure out how to get you Outlook notes over to your Palm Pre, here is a work-around that I used that works just fine for my purposes - even though it is not ideal.  Simply create Contact records with your memo information in the memo area of the contact record in Outlook.  The convention I used was to name each Contact beginning with "Note -" followed by the topic of the note.  So, for example, if I had a note in Outlook containing my company FEIN code, the Contact name would be "Note - FEIN".  Upon copying the note from Outlook into my new Contact record named Note - FEIN, the information is instant sync'd over to my Palm Pre as a Contact that I can easily look up when I need the note information.  Like I said, this is not the ideal solution, but it worked - and I did not have time to keep trying all the other solutions that failed to work for me.  --Good luck.
