HardBeatZ indicates the problem has been solved.
It hasn't been on my system. I *DID* download and install the 64bit version of WMDC v6.1 from the Microsoft website - drvupdate-amd64.exe. My phone "bleeps" when I plug it in to Vista (USB) but nothing else happens. WMDC just sits there fat, dumb and happy indicating no connection! Grrrrr!
Since WMDC fails to recognize my 750 I've fallen back to using an older XP system and ActiveSync until someone figures this all out.

I just did everything that was recommended including installing the MWDC twice. It made a difference, the Vista64 machine now recognizes the phone and I can even browse it but I cannot set-up a partnership. Great PC if the software worked as advertised.

I dont think that a bluetooth connection will make any difference. The problem is with Windows Mobile on the PC not necessarily with connection that Windows Mobile uses. I can connect the Treo to my machine and it recognises it, and I can browse through it, so the connection is ok. Windows Mobile just will not see the phone and synch.
Although give it a shot, who knows, maybe you can be the first. It seems that none of the software or hardware companies, Microsoft Included, is giving much effort to making their products compatible with the 64bit versions of XP or Vista. The big dollars ar still in the 32bit versions so that is where their effort is going. They are treating 64bit as almost a beta OS and we are their guini pigs to test things out.
Our company finally gave up on windows mobile and went with the Iphone. It synchs much better and has a much better user interface, but the phone is not perfect, it still has some of its own problems. It is basically a marketing platform for selling their music and games. But it has great software, is much more stable than the Treo, and much of the software is free, and getting better all the time. I hate the Apple company, and didnt want our company to buy any of their products, because in terms of a greedy customer gouging company they are worse than Microsoft. But the phone is so good that I will never go back to a Windows Mobile Device. I can synch all of my email and contacts without any problems any time any where.

At the beginining of the year I got my Treo 750 upgrade from Rogers. It would synchronize flawlessly using the software that I downloaded WMDC 6.1 64 bit from Microsoft. Where I ran into problems was that I tried to upgrade the phone from the Rogers site. Something got interrupted during the upgrade and I knew my phone was not complete. Rogers could not help me of course. So I got ahold of Palm support. They helped me re-initialize the phone from the shelf state. Once there, they said goodbye. I then started again, synchronized with WMDC 6.1 64 bit, and then went back to the Rogers site to upgrade the phone. It finished and I have had no problems since. Sometimes the synchronization process fails, but all I do is disconnect the phone from the USB cable and re-connect, wait for the beeps (one learns to recognize the pattern) and just wait patiently. It does work. Microsoft software is not perfect or rock solid like the old Palm synchronization with my Treo 600 was, but it does work.
I am starting to have another problem though. Synchronization has worked well until this week. The only thing that has changed is that I have upgraded my Norton to the current version which supports IE8 phishing. Now when I sync, it seems to time out and give an error. Just now I synchronized once successfully but the second time I get the error again. I am not sure if I need to turn off Norton or if there is any other problem. Anyway, when I was looking through Help under 'Troubleshoot sync problems', I found a link to Device Manager. I noticed that when my Palm Treo 750 was connected that it did show connected on the Treo. but under Device Manager, Portable Devices, two icons underneath it, Compact Flash and Windows Mobile-based Device, were both showing yellow colour. I disconnected my Treo and only Compact Flash was left showing yellow. I selected it and was given the choice to find a driver from my system. It did and 'fixed' the problem. Now Compact Flash was showing normal. Now I connected my Treo and everything is synching properly again.
Can anybody tell me what is going wrong with all this? This seems to be a PC Vista problem and not a Treo 750 problem?
Thanks,
Rick

Hello there -
I read this with interest, as I have recently had both the Treo 800W (what a dog) and now the Treo Pro. I found all the same issues and tried all the same workarounds, to no avail.
A solution that has worked for me: Go into settings > Connections > USB to PC and UNCHECK the box that says "advanced network capability". The 64bit vista immediately recognized the phones, and opend up the WMDC. Browse capability, etc. all functional. I took a guess at this, as I had to do the same with my MotoQ9c and WIndows XP to get it to sync properly.
Hope this helps someone.

OK, I managed to get it to work. I am not sure what the problem was. I used a fresh windows install with all service packs. Then WMDC installed properly and worked when synching with Outlook 2007.
