Pre 2 Won't Play Music

I recently purchased a Palm Pre 2 from Verizon.

I can't get music to play on the music player. I have transferred music via USB to my phone, and placed the music in a folder called "music." The files are all DRM-free, .mp3 audio files that haved played fine on 3 other mp3 players.

After putting the files on the Pre 2, when I launch the music player, it just refreshes continuously. I have let it sit and refresh for up to an hour with no progress. It continues to say "Your music library is empty." None of the files show up in the list for ringtones, either.

Do I need to name the folder something else? Should they just be loose in the drive - not in a folder? Is there a maximum size for music files? I've been able to put an .mp3 file in the "ringtones" folder and it shows up in the "ringtones" options, but that file is quite small. I have been able to put a .jpg file in the "wallpapers" folder, and it shows up fine, too.

I've been wrestling with this for days, and I'm so frustrated that I'm ready to return this device... Which would really be sad! I have loved this phone and it's design - but if it's not functional, I can't keep it.

Re: Pre 2 Won't Play Music

Apologies, but I have to ask - we have had many users rip music with Windows Media Player and assume the result is an mp3, when in reality WMP rips to .wma by default.  This format can't be read by the Pre2.

They are in fact .mp3's right?

Re: Pre 2 Won't Play Music

The music player should be able to find your music files wherever they are on the device, as long as they are in a compatible format and did not somehow become corrupted.

Maybe consider starting over...hook up to USB drive, delete the Music folder and all files in it.  Wait a few minutes then Eject the drive.  I would then unplug and Restart the phone.  Reconnect as USB drive once it boots up, create a Music folder...mine is off the DCIM folder but that's just a habit left over from the old Palm OS days.  Drop a simple non-DRM .mp3 file into it.  Make sure you have the file extensions visible to see that it is an .mp3 and not .wma.  Make sure the file transfers completely, and I wait 30 seconds after that before Ejecting the drive, because sometimes there seems to be a lag and if I disconnect right away I have gotten the error that it didn't eject properly and some records may be damaged or some such error.  Start the Music app.

Good luck.
