Okay, so I took the phone to T-Mobile store and they tried to help me but was not able to connect. I came home and just about to give up but I tried the above method again and now it works!! Thanks ninacvargas!!!

These (from ninacvargas) did work for me today with the modification (in bold) in step #7:

 

7. Under the Proxy Server box type: 216.155.165.050:8080

 

The phone then connected to "3G Picture Messaging" or the like.
