Watching videos on the TX

[ Edited ]

I am having some difficulty moving videos to my TX.    If I try to use the palm desktop to sync a movie over to the TX I get a message in the hot sync log saying that the file was not moved because there is no software that can play it. I have also attempted to put to files directly on the card via my computer's built in card reader.  The computer says it is there but the handheld cant find it. According to the palm site under knowlege library, the TX should recognize and play WMV files which is what I am trying to move but the forums say that WMV files are not compatable. (I'm confused)  I have looked through the forums and manuals without sucess.  If I have to download Core Player Im Ok with that ( I would like to be able to watch videos on my palm) however I cannot find it on the web without my antivirus software going nuts warning me about the sites.  Were is a safe place to get it?  And after its downloaded can I get rid of the media software that came installed on the TX out of the box?

The movies I am talking about are ones I made or samples that are on my computer, not DVD's I will tackle that later after I know I can move them.

Thanks

Re: Watching videos on the TX

First place I suggest you read is through this thread stickied at the top of this board.

The TX comes with the Palm Media application which cannot view native WMV files.  They have to be imported using the Media application on the Palm Desktop first.

TCPMP is the free version of what is now The Core Player.  TCPMP can be safely downloaded here.  Download the Palm OS .zip file, extract the contents and install the application and all plug-ins except perhaps the Sony and Zodiak ones.  Then, you'll be able to play many more native video file formats by simply copying the files onto your card with the card reader.

IMHO, a Palm TX without your own DVDs which you've converted for viewing on your Palm, is like a day without sunshine.  With the free TCPMP and the $35 (or thereabouts) Pocket DVD Studio mentioned in the thread above, you can make your TX your own handheld movie theatre.

Good luck, let us know if you have any problems.

Re: Watching videos on the TX

When clicking on "this thread", it goes to this:  Wrong URL.  Is there an updated place I need to read that is still in force?  I have the TCMP installed on the TX.  It plays videos without any problem.  It will not play a DVD movie that has been placed on a card.  It shows up in the menu to select, but does nothing.  What next?  Thank you for any help

@Michael25 - you just replied to a post almost 3 years old!  Some cleaning of the forum has occurred since then.

The thread you're looking for is right at the top of this section!

Re: Watching videos on the TX

The broken link is to a "stickied" thread that's near the top of this very board, about watching DVDs and other video content.  Here is the correct link:

DVD video has to be ripped and converted into one of the formats useable by TCPMP.  There are lots of software tools which can do the job, some of which are discussed in the thread.
