Try some resets - Soft, then Hard. A Hard reset will wipe the device of all User data, then reload all the original apps.
To perform a Hard Reset: (Palm Knowledgebase article #887)
http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/88
While pressing and holding the Power button down, tap and release the Reset button in back and continue to hold the Power button down. When the grey Palm logo appears, you can release the Power button.
You should now see the warning page in about 5 languages. Press the UP direction on the 5-way pad to complete the task. Your Palm will reset itself several times as it re-installs the original programs and erases all your previous data.
Can you HotSync the device? If so, there is a $6 "last-ditch" recommendation I can give that will re-flash the device. It's a risk, but if you got the device for free... ![]()
But, if this truly is a "collector's item", it might be worth leaving it alone... I have no idea how many "XX" samples are in the wild! Your call. Maybe the Hard Reset will work.

Can you please post the Palm OS version number? As far as I know, the XX or T7 where both pre-produciton names for the Palm TX.
From the application launcher screen, tap the Menu button, and then select Info from the App menu. Tap the Version tab at the bottom of the screen. When you do, near the top of the screen, you will see "Palm OS Garnet v. x.x.x". Please post that string here.
Then, I would like you to check the software build number for us. Return the the application launcher screen. Tap the Menu button again and then tap and hold the About Applications menu item with your stylus. While you are still holding the stylus to the screen, press the Up button on the 5-way navigator. Release the stylus from the screen. You should see a window that reads "Applications v. XX". Please post the version you see here.
Thanks,
Alan G

You need to run the tests from the Application launcher screen, not the favorites screen. If you press the Home button again, the Favorites screen will be replaced by the Application launcher screen with either a 3x3 or 3x4 icon grid.
I just finished reading this thread. If you have the Sample warning sticker on the back of the device, as indicated elsewhere in this thread, you may have a pre-release TX with a non-functional Wi-Fi software stack since the FCC may not have certified the unit for wireless communication.
