Sorry to leave Palm

I have been a loyal Palm user with the Verizon Palm 700wx and prior to that the Verizon 700w. I am totally pissed that Palm would offer the Pre to those only on the Sprint network as I have become dissatisfied with the small display on the 700wx, compared to the Palm Pre, iPhone and the Blackberry Storm. Since Sprint in my opinion, does not come close to Verizon in service to my area, I will have to go to the Blackberry Storm to fulfill my needs. Too bad, as I have been very pleased with the Palm device but apparently they don't care about those of us that do not want Sprint. I feel the same about the iPhone as AT&T in my opinion, does not match Verizon in service either.

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Support Community.

Sorry that you sound so bitter, but it's not that Palm chose to purposely screw you or anyone else over, or "doesn't care about those of us that do not want Sprint."

Like a lot of new devices, the Pre was initially exclusive to Sprint, no doubt because Sprint paid for that exclusivity for marketing purposes.  If you have read anything at all about the Pre, then you also know that it is speculated to be coming to Verizon early next year.

Thank you for the information. Perhaps if that is true, I will wait to get the Pre as it appears to have all the "bells & whistles" that I am searching for.

Leaving palm not a good option but possible

Unfortunately the service area for verizon makes it hard to leave them. We actually got service on a ferry to Ocracoke Island in the outer banks. The saddest part is that Sprint gets all the new palm phones and it literally takes YEARS to get them to verizon if they ever make it. It's a funny thing since I have been using Palm since 350! How's that for loyalty. This is how we get rewarded. Verizon is I believe the largest carrier for cell phones. They now have the largest contingent of blackberry phones around. I've tried one and they are not nearly as functional as any of the previous palms even. Please get in touch with marketing and have them wise up. This is where Palm drops the ball. Verizon first! The deal must be lucrative, because if it doesn't make sense there is a buck involved. There would be more if you dealt wisely:smileyhappy:

Re: Sorry to leave Palm

I'm guessing Palm did some sort of market analysis before shutting off support for AT&T, Verizon, etc... I used to be a Sprint customer but their support and their coverage was terrible.  Switched to AT&T and won't go back, not even to get the Pre.  I can't stand the iPhone as like everything else Apple produces, it's too **bleep** proprietary.

I'll get to the point.  Palm used to be the leader in hand held devices and going sole source with Sprint is a terrible business plan. It may make short term capital sense, but the long term cost will be felt about the time you are wanting to offer your products to other cell phone customers.  Most of us who like to refresh our phones don't like the idea of waiting a year for new products.

I'm in the market for a new phone now and not sure I'm going to wait for Palm to be "offered" by AT&T.  The least you could do is give a date the phone will be available through AT&T and other companies.  Leaving it open ended doesn't entice any of us to wait and see what happens.

Re: Sorry to leave Palm

You can purchase direct from Palm and GSM unlocked phone and it will work with ATT.  I am a computer reseller and helped one of my customers with this and he is very happy with the outcome.
