RickNeff wrote a Homebrew App called "I.C.E. Free (Beta)" that implements something that should be in the Lock Screen's
"Tap to dial emergency call" menu (or maybe even earlier in the process -- not every cop knows to "Drag up to unlock."
I.C.E. stands for In Case of Emergency, and is used by first responders who need to get a hold of, well, your emergency contacts when you can't speak. This might seem trivial, but they might need to know your allergies, or to tell your spouse that you're being taken to General Hospital. Right now, a locked phone can only call 9-1-1. The fireman, cop or EMT on scene really does not have to dial 9-1-1 (they have radios that connect directly to emergency services! Cell phones, we don't need no stinking cell phones!).
Bottom line: on a locked phone, there should be and I.C.E. icon as well as the Lock icon when the screen appears. Dragging the lock up does the usual thing, but tapping on the I.C.E. icon pulls up the name and number of an emergency contact that could be dialed. If the phone is unlocked, you should add a contact named I.C.E. or use I.C.E. Free.

I think this would be an important feature to add.
At the bare minimum, there should be a way to define "ICE" contacts in your phone book and make them appear red or have some kind of icon next to the name of some sort which says emergency contact.
my old dumbphone lg env2 had the feature that people could be defined as in case of emergency contacts. they showed up red in the phonebook.
I like the idea of having an ICE icon of some kind for those who lock their phones with a pin. I actually don't lock my phone for the very reason that if i get into a wreck on my motorcycle emergency people will have access to my phonebook (assuming the phone survives in my pocket).
I would be double-ly happy if they were able to discern emergency contacts from everyone else as well. since synergy pools all of my contacts (great feature, i love it) there are a LOT of contacts in my phonebook.

Ditto. Been riding for 38 years, my wife has been labled as ICE for a long time now in each of my phones.
(OK, the label in no way is a reflection of my wife! She's really pretty HOT!) ![]()
I think this is a great idea; one that should be copied by all cell manufacturers.

I had occasion to drive through the Lancaster, PA area yesterday afternoon. Saw a huge billboard that made me laugh (being easily amused):

Better get her a/c fixed.

i guess i could just put ICE somehwere in the name. i have my contacts sorted by last name. If I put ICE before the last name so that all ICE contacts would be together, the names would read "first name ICE last name" might look strange but I suppose it would serve the same purpose?
There's no reason palm couldn't make a more elegant way of defining ice contacts however.

What a fantastic resource...found the site quite by accident.
Thank you

Thanks for the great info. My 76 year old Mum lives alone and recently was asking me about this feature. She is concerned that no one would be able to figure out her emergency contacts.
Thanks again.
