Email IMAP issues - 9820 error?

Hi everyone,

I've been experiencing an email error that I have not been able to resolve on my Touchpad, so I'm hoping that someone out there may be able to help me out.

In short, I get an "Unable to sign in; unable to validate incoming mail server settings. Check the settings and try again.; Requested encryption no supported by server. Error code 9820: Non-specific SSL protocol error -- src/network/SocketConnection.cpp:184"

I know my server address, login, password, encryption type (SSL), and port number (993) is correct. However the 9820 is the error I always get. I am able to log into this server with other mail clients such as Thunderbird, Outlook, and K9 (Android), but not with the HP Touchpad.

Another peculiarity is that whenever I browse to https://serveraddy on the touchpad to use the web interface, I get an "Unable to Load Page" error.

The only other detail that I know is that the server I'm connecting to runs communigate v5, has a godaddy SSLv3 certificate. I've tried running the Email program on the Touchpad emulator (3.0.2), and I get the same errors.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for anyone that can help!

Re: Email IMAP issues - 9820 error?

i have a problem with the Yahoo email 1299 Error and find this tutorial to fix : It appears as if many webOS users in our forums and around the world are having issues syncing their Yahoo email onto their webOS phones. You try to sync your email and all you get is a yellow triangle saying "Unspecified Error: 1299".  we have a little workaround that will allow you to get your Yahoo mail back to your webOS phone.

* From within the email app, swipdown from the top-left and select "Preferences & Accounts"

* Scroll down to the bottom to the Accounts section and tap on your Yahoo account

* Scroll down to the "Remove account" button and tap it. This will only remove the Yahoo email account, not your entire Yahoo account if you have contacts, calendar or messaging added as well

After it was been removed, tap the "Add Account" button back on the "Preferences & Account" screenInstead of selecting "Yahoo", choose "Email Account" at the top

Before inputting any info, tap the "Manual Setup" button

Input the data in the manual setup screen as follows:

Server Type: IMAP

Email Address : (your email address)

Incoming Mail Server: palm.imap.mail.yahoo.com

Username: (your full email address)

Password: (your password)Encryption: SSLPort #: 993Outgoing Mail Server: palm.smtp.mail.yahoo.com

Use Authentication: ON

Username: (your full email address)

Password: (your password)

Encryption: SSLPort #: 465

When you are done, tap on "Sign in"You will be taken to a "Account Settings" screen. Just tap the "Create" button

Re: Email IMAP issues - 9820 error?

Interesting. I did something very similar to try to see if I can use yahoo on my touchpad and followed the guidelines posted on yahoo's website:

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mobile/comms/mail/imap-01.html

I was successful with using imap.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.mail.yahoo.com (note that its not the same as the one sesshomaru posted).

Still no success with my email server though. I'm guessing nobody has encountered a 9820 error?

"Another peculiarity is that whenever I browse to https://serveraddy on the touchpad to use the web interface, I get an "Unable to Load Page" error."

The link isn't a real link; you need a ".com" or something and is it supposed to be "https://server.goDaddy.com"? I assume you mistyped it on here, but we can't fix it without the real link. What's the address?
