My TouchPad Accounts (EMail, WebOS, Kindle) GONE

[ Edited ]

Over the past few my Kindle Beta app has been a little funky, e.g. requiring a reboot to get the app to display the library.  This morning the same thing, but Kindle never opened.  Started checking, EMail does not open and the account associated with it are gone.  On the Setting Menu Accounts won't open and Device Information has the name completed but the HP WEBOX ACCOUNT is blank.  Help refuses to open regardless of where initiated.  Location Services comes up with a blank screen.  HP App Catalog opens with a grayed out screen and spinning circle.

I've conclued that all my account seem to be missing and anything depending upon an account won't open.  Not sure how correct that conclusion is but hey, I'm grasping at straws....

Any help would be greatly apprecieated.

Hi FireWriter,

Let's start with the basics. Let's go ahead and reboot your TouchPad. To reboot your TouchPad:

  • Press and hold the Power Button + Center Button
  • Keep holding them until you see a black screen with an HP logo
  • Once you see the logo, let go of both buttons.

If that doesn't work, post back here and we'll try some more things.

Re: My TouchPad Accounts (EMail, WebOS, Kindle) GONE

Same issue with my TP.  I have had mine for several months now and have had no issues.  Suddenly I started encountering issues where TP would not display emails, browser favorites and/or connect to the HP catalog.  A reboot (holding the power button) always fixed.  Issue seemed to clear up last week until this morning.  No email, no Kindle, no HP Catalog.  I have internet access but get the following error when trying to pull up my WebOS account:

Must be connected to a network to communicate with HP's Cloud Services.  Check your network connection, or try again later.

Advice or suggestions welcomed and appreciated.

have the same issue. TP is losing webOS account info daily around midnight. Only way to get it back filled in is via a reboot. So right now I have to reboot daily.

In the morning, when you lose all your data, before restarting can you please try browsing the web and report back here as to the result?

Well, I still can surf the Internet. However, all my favorites are not available anymore - only after the reboot they show again. I can't receive emails in that state, can't access the application catalog etc. as the WebOS account info is missing. All is fine again after the reboot.

Hrm, it sounds like your TouchPad is losing access to the internal databases that store your information. Do you have any Preware patches installed? Specifically, do you have any relating to the Filesystem Cache?

No Preware patches installed. I have this issue already for many weeks. I only installed Preware and Preware applications 2-3 weeks ago. And so far I haven’t installed any patches yet, just some applications.

Re: My TouchPad Accounts (EMail, WebOS, Kindle) GONE

Have you tried doing webOS Doctor yet? It'll re-flash you device with the latest webOS version. Might help. To use webOS Doctor:

  1. Browse to http://www.hpwebos.com/account and login
  2. Click Device Options next to the device in question
  3. Click Get webOS Doctor
  4. Make sure you have a compatible version of Java installed and click Continue
  5. Click Download webOS Doctor
  6. Once it's downloaded, it'll start running. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Re: My TouchPad Accounts (EMail, WebOS, Kindle) GONE

thanks - done. Seems to have fixed the problem as far as I can tell so far. However, I wasn't aware that doctoring it would reset everything including my dual boot configuration for WebOS / Android. So I lost the Android capability. Also while all the applications were re-installed automatically I still had to set my preferences and other configurations again. So this was a quite time consuming exercise and still not fully recovered as far as Android is concerned...

Anyway at least I now know how WebOS recovery works and what it takes.:smileywink:
