Thank you for a very interesting thread. I have found a couple of things that seem to work for me:
1) I created a folder named Videos in the Root directory and saved all of my converted DVD files in there. I renamed each file to match the film name. Each file is in .mp4 format, converted as described in 2) below. This folder appears in Photos and Videos at the top of the list with a Cine-camera icon on it.
2) To convert a DVD to MP4 format in a single pass, I use a Program called Xilisoft DVD Ripper Ultimate 5 . This offers a variety of output formats including mp4 and H264 but the H264 saves as .AVI and doesn't play. The conversion takes about 2 hrs on my Toshiba Vista laptop and the output file is around 1GB in size.
I hope this helps somebody who is trying to do the same thing.

I am assuming there is still no way to play movies downloaded via iTunes since they are protected. I did the drag and drop when USB connected and it showed up on my touchpad. Had the movie title and even displayed the movie title and showed an image of the cover but when I went to it, it would not play. Guessing this is Apples way of trying to get me to but an iPad (not happening by the way).

I had this problem once and I didn't realize when I didn't drag the folder that the music was in but the individual song it didn't make a copy it made a shortcut. Shortcuts will not load up on the Touchpad. When I dragged the folder over it copied it to my touchpad and then it was in the music app when I opened it.

You will learn quickly that all of these palm/webos sites talk like everybody asking for support is a Techie/Developer. Even if you call Palm tech support they will talk to you like you have a computer engineering degree. I am not complaining because I learn a lot about tech reading these and then having to Google what things mean. But any answer you get be prepared to research.

I apologize about being vague with the exact steps. Unfortunately, I have to be. As of right now, it may or may not be legal to RIP DVD's in the US. The reason is that there are two contradicting laws about this issue, and a specific decision on this topic has not been taken to court. On the one hand, it is illegal to bypass an encryption system that is protecting content. On the other hand, you have the fair uses clauses that state you can change copyrighted content to work on other devices if it's for your own personal use. While I personally think the latter of these takes precedence, the courts have not made a decision one or the other. This means we have to be careful about what we talk about on official company websites. We can talk about video formats, resolutions, and encoders. We CANNOT talk about the process of bypassing an encryption system.
An interesting side note, there WAS a court decision on this exact topic in France and the courts there found that Fair Use rights take precedent. That is why most of the systems/programs that bypass the encryption come from France.
If you do a bit of Googling, you will quickly come up with the information/applications necessary to rip DVD's and then use the information in this thread to encode them in a format that will work on your TouchPad.
