facebook login on touchpad

I can't log into the facebook app from the touchpad.  I've even called the butler service and they tried a few things like changing my privacy settings but with no luck.  They told me it must be a facebook problem.  I've seen other people have the same problem but none of the recommendations suggested work.  This is really sad since I bought the touchpad so I could use this app to keep in touch with my family and it doesn't work.  Any fresh ideas?

Use the web browser to access facebook.com.

Re: facebook login on touchpad

Sure I can do that but what is the use of the app if I can't use it? I thought it was supposed to be easy to use to download pictures, so far it has been more frustrating then useful.

The facebook app is more of a pain to use than the browser method. It only has one thing going for it, and also a bad thing too.

The good thing is that in a round about way you can upload a photo/picture with it, providing your connect is not an ornery one. However you have to upload the photo first, then add a comment after. Cannot add a comment and upload a photo at the same time.

Now the bad news is, least in 3.0.4, the HP Facebook App created its own Wall Photos folder, in which your home PC will not have access to.

Here's the proof of the HP for Facbook App's hidden Wall Photos folder; screen shot was taken from the tablet. Accessing the same facebook accout from a browser does not show the hidden Wall Photo's folder, only the one connected to the account. Only the HP for Facebook App can see/use it.

Note: There is a round about way to access a photo from the hidden app's Wall Photos but requires two accounts, two different browsers, and your touchpad to initiate the discovery via tags. ~ Unless your TouchPad has a different facebook account.
Tag with the app to your other account, then it tags your main account, then your main account will see only the photo or picture that was tagged. It is an annoying process.

The only cool advantage of using the annoying panes facebook app is the small palm logo attached to your initial facebook entry. These don't see to appear in response to others messages.

Can only hope that Advanced Browser and the default HP browser will adopt the social tattoo and wording on what was used to promote the webOS social experience.

Browsers cannot upload photos to facebook yet. The buttons appear on the screen yet are greyed out from use. So you are not able to upload a photo via a webOS browser until facebook wakes up and allows it.

Re: facebook login on touchpad

IMHO the Facebook for WebOS app is in need of some updates with relation to FB making changes to their backend APIs.

Example: Not only the Facebook Photos API (which is why you have the problem above), but also the Messaging API, where the Facebook for WebOS App doesn't recognize FB's new method of "tags" for "archived|deleted" messages. If you archive/delete a message|chat or entire thread on FB, you'll still see it in your WebOS inbox.

Annoying. (Got me in hot water with my S.O....)

Is anyone even still doing development on the app? This affects both the phones and the TP. UPDATE!!!!

Re: facebook login on touchpad

I personally think the Facebook app needs updating desperately. If you're like me and the Facebook app just keeps sitting on the blue login screen, try this workaround:

  1. Open the in app menu by tapping on the top left
  2. Select Preferences and Accounts
  3. On the new screen, don't change anything. Just hit Done

That should bring you back to the main screen of the app and you'll notice you're now magically logged in. I have to do this every single time I use the app on my 3G TouchPad (with current webOS version). Like others have suggested, I just use the normal web interface now.
