Hi,

I have a Palm Pre2.  It accesses the internet every 10 minutes.  I think this is to check for new email and/or updates.  It is costing me £1.50 a day.  How do I turn it off?  I have a wi-fi connection at home.  I have set the phone up to connect to that.  Can I switch off the auto-email-update facility without affecting the wi-fi connection on the phone?

The setting you are looking for is the Get Email. It can be found by going into the email app and then tapping the top left hand corner to open the application menu then going to Preferences and Accounts. Select the account in question and then under the Get Mail there should be an option for Manual. This should stop the device from attempting to get email automatically.

This hasn't resolved the issue.  My phone is still accessing the internet.  I am at home, where there is a wi-fi connection.  Could that be what I am being charged for?

I have entered the Preferences menu. I have switched off Network Auto-Select. It says it is unable to connect. I have switched Data Usage off and disabled Data Roaming. What will these do?

Hi,

The issue isn't resolved.  Please see previous topic.  I have switched wi-fi off as well now.  I will probably change my telephony provider to one that provides internet access.  If I do, should I leave the wi-fi switched off until it is required?

Data usage referres to any data use over a carrier network while Data roaming referes to using data over another carrier network.
Turning these off should stop the device from accessing any carrier network data service.
You should not be billed for any wifi communication or connection.
The device also backs up through the backup application daily. Have you checked that? If backup is on then it will attempt to use data to backup unless wifi is avail and connected.
