Re: Can I use Palm Desktop 4.2.1 with Snow Leopard?

Would you please detail how, using OS 10.6.4, and without Missing Sync, manage to sync your TX? I can't even sync using Missing Sync 6.0.6 - tia James

Re: Can I use Palm Desktop 4.2.1 with Snow Leopard?

I'm late to this forum and thread because I'm new to Mac computers.

I've just purchased a new iMac with Snow Leopard and have been trying to get my antique Palm m500 and m505 to sync on it.  I was getting nowhere and was thinking of springing for the $40 MissingLink software.

I got checking around today and found this thread.  I downloaded the Palm Desktop 4.2.1 Rev D and I can now sync both Palms with no problem.  My Palm info does not sync with iCal but I can still keep my Palm synced with the Palm desktop views.  Great news and no $$$$!

My LifeDrive and E2 both sync well with OS X 10.6.6 with Palm Desktop 4 installed and runs fine.

Re: Can I use Palm Desktop 4.2.1 with Snow Leopard?

I've recently heard that Apple will not be including Rosetta with future Mac OS updates. This is bad news as I suspect that at that point the Palm Desktop will no longer sync with my TX as it does now quite perfectly with Snow Leopard. Can some one confirm this and /or suggest a new workaround?

The Palm Desktop is a very special piece of software that deserves to  live on as it does what it was designed for very well indeed. Perhaps folks that still appreciate Palm PDAs might chip in to hire some programmer to hack Palm Desktop so that it will still sync with Mac OS10.7

Re: Can I use Palm Desktop 4.2.1 with Snow Leopard?

After installing Snow Leopard 10.6.7, I am unable to HotSync my Palm Tungsten E2 with the Palm Desktop version 4.2.1.  On my iMac I get a small window wanting a passcode to complete pairing with another bluetooth device saying the same passcode must be entered on the remote Bluetooth device. When I enter the same code on my handheld, I get a message on the handheld that says "Unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another application."  Did you have to deal with this? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Can I use Palm Desktop 4.2.1 with Snow Leopard?

Since upgrading my iMac to Snow Leopard (10.6.7) I have been unable to HotSync my Palm Tungsten E2 with my Palm Desktop (4.2.1).  When I click the HotSync icon on my handheld, a small window comes up on my desktop asking for a passcode that must be entered in the window and also on the handheld in order to pair via Bluetooth.  When I enter both, I get a message on the handheld: "Unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another application."  My wireless keyboard and mouse are connected via Bluetooth as they have always been.

Well, three hours after struggling with this problem, I've finally solved it.  However, I decided to post this anyway in case someone else has the same problem.  I went to System Preferences->Bluetooth and highlighted my listed, but not connected PDA. I clicked Advanced and changed the Bluetooth-PDA-Sync type from Modem to RS-232. And Voila!  (As I wrote this, I walked back through my steps and found the type has reverted to Modem. I left it there and tried to HotSync again. The HotSync still works.)

Re: Can I use Palm Desktop 4.2.1 with Snow Leopard?

I have been using PD for Mac 4.2.1 with OSX 10.6.8 very succesfully to keep my datebook current. The problem is now I have upgraded to 10.7 (Lion) and it no longer supports ppc apps. I have my datebook on a backup drive but I want to migrate everything to iCal as that seems the only logical end result. It appears I need to do a hot sync from desktop to device and then MarkSpace's "Missing Sync" software is supposed to be able to sync the device to iCal. It will not sync the desktop to iCal because of the proprietary file format of Palm. My problem is my old palm Vx long ago died. My question is what more recent Palm devices will hot sync to my 4.2.1 desktop? I can get any number of them on eBay. Can I go as new as a Zire or a Tungsten or should I stay old like an m500? Any ideas?
