Copying from notepad to Mac desktop

I have a Zire 71, which I sync to an iMac running OSX.4. I found that if I drag a notepad memo to the desktop, it creates a file called "memo clipping.textClipping". This is very useful for backing up my memos in a way that will help in case I lose my palm pilot.  But, when I open these files, I find that I can't print, edit or export them. Does anyone have any experience with this kid of file? Can it be converted to something like TextEdit or simpletext? Thanks

I also got encountered "memo clipping.textClipping" it creates automatically when dragging to spaces. I can't open the file too so I just move to trash.
