Am trying to transfer data to a new Tungsten E2. Did this before so easily - not this time. Can't understand why Hot Synch option to choose from PC to Handheld or from Handheld to PC option is no longer there. Am worried I wiped out the data from PC with the blank (new) device. No CD with new device so had to use download. (I have previous CD for my old Tungsten E2).
I have all my data on my old Tungsten E2 but will not synch until I know for sure the data can be saved (backed up) under the right profile. Read through manuals but can't find instructions or right key word to search.
I use it as PDA don' t need and don't want Bluetooth, phone or web. This should be easy but it's not! Please help. Leaving town soon.
Thanks.

Another thing to do to preserve your data while it is still on your handheld, is to make a complete backup onto a SD card using a freeware utility called NVBackup. Google it to find it. You'll need to copy the file nvbackup.prc onto a SD card (regular SD, not SDHC, up to 1GB in size). Since you are having trouble Hotsyncing, you will have to put the file onto the card manually, with a SD card reader. If you don't already have a SD card, you'll need to format it in the E2 first using the Card Info application. Then, with a card reader connected to your PC, copy the nvbackup.prc file into the palm/launcher folder of the card. Pop the card into the E2 and run the app. Create a new backup. It'll take just a few minutes, but if your data is valuable to you, it will save you from untold agony if your data were to disappear because something happens to it.

Thank you to Ridius and Wyrenut but got back from vacation and trying for days still can't resolve issue. Read all help and forums. Finally able to synch both but now have 2 users names. Summary:
OldE2 screen stopped working. Bought used E2 but did not get CD. Seller sent me link to download vers 6.2 but I hated it, found this site & uninstalled 6.2. In the process, I got mixed up when being asked to overwrite Palmdesktop (which username? I find instructions ambiguous) & wiped out my Palmdesktop and NewE1 is blank; has no data.
Uninstalled 6.2, got out my old disk 4.1 (I think) and reinstalled oh about 15 times. FINALLY got devices to sync and tried changing setting "Palm to desktop from OldE2 then Desktop to NewE2" with no luck. Both devices registered. And no, I did not copy backup in the beginning b/c I didn't know it would be this problematic!
All historical data is on OldE2. Just want to transfer OldE2 to NewE2. Have owned 3 devices before and never had this much trouble swapping info from one to the other! Don't use it for phone or internet just other apps.
Now Palm Desktop has disappeared and won't open. Link to shortcut broken and PC can't find the program.
Can anyone please help me? Thank you

Thank you Wyrenut. Yes, all useful data: memos, calendar, contacts. I thought of that and tried using beam function but it did not allow it because the records are locked. It's not password protected or locked by me so maybe the software prevents it?
Regarding NVBACKUP, I downloaded it but maybe I'm not savy enough to unzip the required program because it didn't work.
Will keep trying other ways. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Thank you very much for your assistance. My problem is solved thanks to being directed to a link that explained things a little better.
First, I started by copying some 3rd pty apps to SD card then deleted them from device OldE2. Since I had data on my OldE2 I deleted all the Palm files in my Programs folder. Reloaded the old 4.1.1 CD and started over. Synched my old device succesfully. The link explained about hard reset which I had never done. Did a hard reset on the used NewE2 & reset to factory settings. Synched this replacement device (NewE2) and VOILA all my data, calendar, contacts, memos transfered. YAY.
Now if I could figure out how to get rid of apps I don't need like phone and internet it would be perfect. Not sure what they are named and which to delete.
Great site - much helpful information. I am very grateful to the forum community. Thanks.
