Centro Won't Charge

Starting today, my Palm Centro wouldn't charge... I've had the phone for approximately 2 months now.

My phone's battery power is really low. I've already tried the soft reset and that didn't do anything. I've also checked the plug, so I can rule that possible problem out. Help!

Re: Centro Won't Charge

Have you tried removing the battery and leaving it out for about a minute?

Otherwise you might want to swap out the battery.

Turn off the cell radio and connect the Centro to your PC, it will charge that way SLOWLY.

Then try replacing the charger.

Re: Centro Won't Charge

Make sure your charger is properly plugged into the electrical outlet and that the electrical outlet is powered. I have read stories of pets sleeping under desks partially unplugging things and of wall switches in unlikely places turning off the power to outlets. Have you had any electrical storms or power surges?

Re: Centro Won't Charge

If only that was the case...

There have been no power surges or anything whatsoever, and I have no pets. The poor thing's completely drained of battery and there's no way to recharge it.

Can I connect it to a computer to charge without installing the disc?

Re: Centro Won't Charge

You have to install the software to charge the device. I would suggest going to a sprint store and seeing if they can charge the device. This will tell you if it's the device or the charger.

Re: Centro Won't Charge

My Centro is doing the same thing.  I got it the first week of July, and mid-September the red light that's on when it's charging was flashing.  I noticed that the green "charged" light never came on, and the battery was running down faster than before.  Then, the phone wouldn't recognize the electrical charger AT ALL, but would charge (slowly) on the Hot Sync cable.

I called Sprint, they had me come in for repair.  Three repair visits later, Sprint deduced that the problem was the CHARGER TIP had become too loose for the socket in the Centro.

I explained that ALL of my chargers--the Sprint one I got with the phone, which I use at home, a Palm brand charger I use at the office and my Palm-branded car chargers--were having the same problem.  They were bought at diffferent times and places, and yet all three had the same problem SIMULTANEOUSLY?

Sprint replaced my Sprint charger on Monday (9/30), assuring me this would solve my problem.  I got home with a brand-new charger--and had the SAME problem.

It seems the socket on the phone is loose--it can't "hold" the plug in place to charge.

This seems ridiculous after only three months.   Is Palm replacing these defective PDAs?

Re: Centro Won't Charge

I'm having a similar problem. Maybe somone can help. A few months ago I switched from a Treo 650 to a Centro. Of course, like so many of you, I have several aftermarket accessories. In particular, I have a few emergency chargers for my Palm (a few Cellboost disposable batteries, a Seidio charger adapter that connects to a 9v battery, and now a charging adapter that connects to an emergency solar/crank charged radio) all of these have the standard palm charging tip but nothing seems to charge the phone besides a USB charger, my car charger and the AC charger. The phone doesn't even recognize the smaller DC chargers (the LED doesn't change, the charging icon doesn't come on, and it doesn't give the standard tone that it normally does when connected to the charger).  My Treo 650 never had this problem (though I didn't own the emergency radio when the Treo was around). So far as I can deduce, I've narrowed it down to smaller DC style chargers. Has anyone experienced this? I'd love to figure out what the issue is and resolve it.
