Palm TX Won't Boot Without Being Plugged into AC Adapter & WiFi shuts device off completely when authenticating

My daughter just got a Palm TX as a gift two days ago.  I have 2 issues - We connected it and charged it as instructed in the manual however no matter what I do, it will not boot when disconnected from AC power (first issue).  While connected to the wall, the device appears to function correctly except for the WiFi which causes the device to shut down while attempting to autheticate on my network (second issue).  The only way I can get the device to turn on after it has shut down is with a soft reset while being plugged into the wall.  Once I disconnect the AC cord, the unit shuts down and will not boot at all either through the power button or with a soft/hard reset.  I did a full hard reset last night and let it charge again for 3 hours plugged into a different outlet but I still have the same issues.  Is there a hotfix or update available that addresses these issues?  Is my daughter S.O.L. because the device is obsolete and no longer officially supported by Palm/HP?  Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hello geekdad, sorry to hear about the problematic TX.

The TX debuted in 2005.  Yours sounds like the battery is long dead, and has other problems (Wifi killing it) as well.

There are websites that repair Palm PDA's, should you choose to do so.  Directfix.com is one, palmdr.com another.

Thank WyreNut, that makes perfect sense. I will contact one of them to replace the battery. I appreciate your posting a reply, be well.
