Palm Treo Pro Phone Speaker Issue

So I recently got a Sprint Treo Pro

Seem to be having this mysterious problem where without any explination the phone thinks a wired headset is plugged in and it turns off both the ear piece and the speaker.

I downloaded the "SPNT_TreoProRingerUpdate.CAB (2MB cab file)" as this is what the Sprint store advised.  That seems to have done nothing.

Ideas?  Do I just have a problem with my phone?

Hello LoggerMN, Welcome to the Palm Support Community!

Try this solution mentioned in the Audio, Video, and Photo board:

This is usually a simple thing to fix...

WyreNut -

I've read this possibility in another place.  Initially I thought this was a likely cause.  However this is a brand new phone that has only had the phone jack used a couple of times.

Maybe you have heard about this scenario before?  I'm also having a hard time believing that is the problem when it is working great and then without plugging the phones in or out it just stops working.  Wouldn't you expect this to mainly be a problem right after you unplugged the headset?  The way it is working I kind of assumed it was software related.

I've got no other ideas and I'm willing to consider any option?  However its a brand new phone so I'm having a hard time spraying solution into the jack and then having them complain or void any warranty.

Thoughts?

Re: Palm Treo Pro Phone Speaker Issue

I have heard of this situation with many Palm phones/pdas.

No one is asking you to "spray solution into the jack"!    Just a drop of non-conductive lube on the end of the male plug is plenty!

This is often a simple "solution" to the problem.   If you choose not to give it a try, that's certainly your option.  With it being brand-new, you could just return the phone as defective to the store you purchased it from.

If you think it's software-related, then my only suggestion is to perform a Hard Reset on the phone (to erase it completely) and test for normal operation BEFORE re-syncing all the data back to the device from your PC.
