I have recently been struck with a case of digitizer drift on my Palm TX. I have read several messages about it. In trying to fix it, I did a hard reset, and now I can't get out of the digitizer screen. I have tried another hard reset, soft reset, warm reset, cleaning the screen, and the edges, everything I have read about. I want to get out and try to upload some of the drift correction software. Any suggestions on how to get out of this screen?

Same problem on Tungsten E. Hoping to use recal, but cannot even reload updated Palm Desktop software. Have also tried all resets, etc. This appears to be a hardware issue, have read previous posts same issue, stuck in loop. This handheld should still have a lot of life in it. Taking it in to Palm Store (San Jose, CA) to see if they have any suggestions. Will post...or, ANY ADVICE out there??

I can't help you on getting out of the screen. But I can confirm doing a hard reset cleared up the drift on my T5. Works like new.

Screen protector wedgie or crud/debris under the case pressing on the digitizer causing a phantom screen tap.

Remove screen protector. Fold the corner of a piece of copier paper to make a scoop and go around the perimeter of the screen, no more than 3mm under case to dislodge gunk.

Reapply screen protector, making absolutely certain that it is not under the case.

I have the exact same problem with my Palm TX. I didn't do anything to it! One day it worked, and the next day this happened....it must have been something overnight. Let me know if you find anything....

I have had the same problem with what is now the 3rd TX I have received from Palm. Today their tech support walked me thru the problem with yet another hard reset and it went away mysteriously. Why I have no clue. I did the same thing and was always stuck in the digitizer calibration loop.

after I got off the phone with the support person. I synced and started using the
Palm again. Shortly it started acting flakey. I was in note mode and when I wrote
letters they were interpeted as numbers. I was writing in the letter section. I
pressed the home graffiti image and the image for the calculator lit up and the
calculator came up. This was the same behaviour it displayed leading up to the point
where I was stuck in an infinite digitizer calibration loop.

I find it very depressing and hard to trust the thing. This is the first palm I have
had to perform a reset just about every day, since Ive had it and used it.


I do not trust my TX and I am waiting for Palm to do something about it, not sure what, the TX has terrible quality control. I have used Palm products for 10+ years, back when they were a software company selling Grafitti for the Newton. What has happend to this once great company?

Is yours still under warranty?  If it is not, my T3 was doing the same thing.  I am mailing it tomorrow to FixYourPDA http://stores.ebay.com/Fix-Your-PDA-Store They are putting in a new digitizer and touch screen for $39.99, which includes parts, labor, and postage. pdaparts.com wants 59.99 just for the digitizer and touch screen and you install it.  The Palm forum moderators usually recommend usedpdaparts.com.  I typed all the previous and went to usedpdaparts.com to check their prices and to have start this over typing again.  A digitizer is $30 and repair work is $10.  I don't  know what their postage is.  I wrote them and asked a couple of days ago what the postage would be on my second T3 to have the battery replaced and I haven't heard yet, but it's the weekend.  I bought a TX a month ago and hated it.  I use my voice memo all the time and it doesn't have it.  Also the home button on case  drove me nuts, it's right where my left thumb is holding the Palm and because it not on the screen it doesn't light up in the dark.  I returned and bought another T3 on ebay, but it has battery problems. FixYourPDA is a Power Seller on ebay, that means they have handled thousands of transactions with a positive feedback score.  I trust usedpdaparts.com fix repair the battery because Palm forum moderators wouldn't recommend them if they didn't have a good reputation. Hopefully your TX is still under warranty and Palm will take care of you.  Let me know how you do.

Hello Palm Lover,

My TX is under a 90 day warrenty, as far as I am concerned, it is still not fixed. The thing acts crazy. you press something on the left side and then something on the right side lights up and executes. The web browser crashes every 5 to 10 minutes, like clockwork. It is such a shame, the 1st palm with a DREAM set of features, except the voice memo part, AND IT WORKS LIKE (#*+ & (^$*# I guess my next PDA will be a windows powered one, I don't know if it will come from Palm?

The T3 still rocks, I guess I will be needing a battery update soon. It appears it may be better to fix the T3, than to keep having Palm sending me defective TX after defective TX. Perhaps the third time could be a charm?
