Palm Desktop 6.2 vs Older Operating Systems

I have a Treo 650 and I believe my operating system is Palm OS Garnet (?) v. 5.4.8.

Recently I tried to download some new apps and they don't want to install on my Treo.  I have several questions.

1) Can I install Palm Desktop 6.2?

2) Will I still be able to use the applications I have now or will they be corrupted or eliminated?

3) Are there directions on how to install somewhere?

Thanks

1. Sure you can, but if you're not running Vista or Win7 on your computer it makes no sense at all.

2. Some that depend on Quick Install will not work, and many older ones may not be able to sync (like Docs to Go).  Palm Desktop (by Access of Japan) is a less-featured version of the original software.  :smileysad:

Thank for your input.  I have decided to not make any changes.
