my company just went with a pro account of gmail - so I now have an email like mlauricella@companyname.com.  It's a gmail account and I would like to set this up on my pre.  I already have my personal email set up on the pre mike@gmail.com - and that works great.

I keeping getting and error when I try to do the set up.

I have read that I can have 2 gmail accounts so this should work....

Hello!

With Google Professional, you will need to use the manual setup option for the email acct.  Be sure to use the following info:

User: user@mydomain.com (instead of user@gmail.com)
Password: whatever it is

Server: imap.gmail.com
Port (SSL Required): 993
SMTP: smtp.gmail.com

Port (TLS): 465 or 587

The Pre can take multiple google based accts.

Re: Google Professional

That did the trick - it worked with the port 587.

It's intersting that it works that way.

Really appreciate it.

Re: Google Professional

interestingly - this stopped working today - I can send messages from my google premier account on the pre but I can not receive on the pre.  I did not change any of the settings.  I can access webmail fine from my PC - no issues.  just on the pre....

Did anything change?

Try using mail.gmail.com or pop.gmail.com for your incoming mail server on port 995.

Hope it works for you.

Re: Google Professional

thanks for the reply - this doesn't seem to be doing the trick either.

here's what I am observing - we have a google premier account - so my corpo email is like this flastname@companyname.com

I did mange to complete delete this account from the phone - messenger, calendar, contacts and email.  I then readded it.

I was getting messages on Sunday - yesterday - but today I am not seeing any messages come to my pre.  In the web UI of google for our premier account I have them.  In the mobile web ui of google _ I have the messages but nothing is being sent to my phone ie - not the pre email client.

Oddly though - I can still send email from the mobile client on the pre when using this google pro account

I have my settings exactly as outlined in this thread...

are others able to successfully use their google premier/pro account with their pre?

I have other accounts - a yahoo, a consumer gmail account set up on the pre and all are working normally.

 thanks

Re: Google Professional

Did you try deleting the account power cycling the phone then re adding it? This seems to help in certain situations

Re: Google Professional

OK - I got this sorted out and wanted to share the solution.  Everything in this thread regarding IMAP settings sorta works but cuases issues.

The best thing to do is to go to this link -

https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=150695

and the click on the drop down -  View instructions for Google Apps email addresses

wehre you will see this info -

To configure the Palm Pre's built-in email app for access to Google Apps email, we recommend against setting up your account through the 'Email' program. Instead, just follow the steps below to set up Google Apps through the 'Contacts' app:

  1. On your phone, open the Contacts app
  2. In the top left corner, open the menu by tapping Contacts
  3. Tap Preferences & Accounts
  4. Scroll down and tap the Add An Account button
  5. Tap Google
  6. Enter your full Google Apps email address and password
  7. Tap the Sign In button

---------------------------------------

if you do the IMAP process outlined here that will work but then when you add contacts it casuses some bizarre conflict.

my advice if you are having trouble - remove everything from your pre relating to the google apps account in question - email, cal, mesenger, contacts - EVERYTHING  -

then follow the Google instructions -
just by adding the needed info to contacts on the pre - your email, calendar and messenger accounts are automatically created.  You don't have to do anything.

Note to Palm - it would be great if your support were anything close to what Google offers.  After days of searching your site I spent 3 minutes on the google site and everything was corrected.

That said - I do love the pre!!! And in time you guys are going to cause a world of hurt to the iphone - -

OH - last comment - eveything I have written pertains to webos 1.1 Since as we all know - 1.2 IS STILL NOT OUT!!!!!  -  ok Palm - stop reading and start coding....

Re: Google Professional

I'm glad you got it to work finally. And your walkthru or whatever will bring great help in the future for other users.
