Hi this is my first post, having just joined. 

I have had my Pre3 for just over 3 months now and I've noticed over the last 2 weeks or so that many of my contacts are getting randomly linked to each other - some with over 45 links to other completely unrelated contacts. Of course this is playing hell with my ability to send and receive text messages, emails, find phone numbers, etc.

I tried removing accounts thinking I could reinstall cleanly, but that did not clear the entries already on the phone which remain linked as before. When I try to manually unlink - which is not easy as I have close to 2,000 contacts which originated in my Exchange account, but the phone shows over 3,500 contacts (!) since I would have to go into each contact to see which have illegitimate links - I find that I simply cannot go into one contact and just manually unlink in one go. I am finding that I have to press the unlink button for one, then close the app down, then reopen and unlink another, and keep repeating this cycle to clear all the unrelated links.

I am hoping someone can help me with some tips on how to short circuit the process without doing a complete wipe and restarting from scratch.

My recommendation would be to start over with contacts. First, go into all of your accounts and just turn off Contacts. Once that's done, go through your contacts and take a look at the data to see if you can find any common items. Synergy will automatically link contacts that have 2 or more pieces of information the same. Try to find the commonalities, differentiate them, and then turn contacts back on for each account.

I have too many contacts to individually go through each. Is there an easy way to just delete all the existing contacts and start again?

Yep, what I posted earlier. By turning off the Contacts option for each individual account (in the Accounts App), it will erase all contact data.
