Move contacts from Palm Pre Plus into gmail

When I got my phone it automatically took my contacts from gmail and put them in the contact list on my phone.  I now have contacts in my phone that I need to have in gmail as well.

Is there a way to export contacts from the phone so I do not have to manually add all this information into Gmail too?

Re: Move contacts from Palm Pre Plus into gmail

Not sure I understand. But if you added gmail to your phone it uses synergy to link the 2. As long as you add new contacts to the gmail profile (check the preferences it defaults to the Palm Profile) they show up both in gmail, and on the phone. The 2 are the same. You should not have lost any contacts in your gmail when you set up the phone. So there is no need to export as it does this automatically.

Re: Move contacts from Palm Pre Plus into gmail

They are linked and when I add a contact to Gmail it will be on my phone, but if I add a contact to my phone it will not be added to my contacts on gmail.

I need to have the same contacts in both places.

So i want to export the new contacts from my phone and put them into Gmail but i don't know how to do this and I am trying to avoid doing this manually.

Re: Move contacts from Palm Pre Plus into gmail

You can not export from the Palm. But what sounds like is happening is your new contacts entered on the Pre are not going to the Gmail account. You can change it to the default in the Preferences from the Contact app. This way when you add contacts on the phone, it goes to the gmail profile instead of the default Palm profile. Thus saving it in gmail so you can access it on the computer as well. Any entries you have added so far sound like they are probably being saved to the palm profile (default). There is no way to change those or export so you will need to remove them and add them back but this time to the gmail profile.

Re: Move contacts from Palm Pre Plus into gmail

To change the default to gmail from the contacts app, bring down the top left drop down by clicking "contacts". Choose Preferences & Accounts,Under "Default Account" It probably says Palm Profile correct? Click it and choose Google. Now any new contacts will be saved to your gmail contacts so they can be viewed both on phone, and from the gmail on the web.

Re: Move contacts from Palm Pre Plus into gmail

So I have to manually add all of the contacts that are in my phone into Gmail.  I will change that setting so that going forward they will be added into my gmail as well.

This is something that Palm should definitely remedy!!

Thanks for your help!

Re: Move contacts from Palm Pre Plus into gmail

There is not really a remedy. Not everyone uses gmail. So the phone saves all contacts to its "Palm Profile" by default. Now when people add gmail, or exchange, or yahoo they get the option to sync those accounts. Problem is they need to tell the phone which one they want the new contacts entered on the phone to go to.

You do not need to manually add "all" your contacts into gmail. You already said that it pulled contacts from your gmail. Those stay on both gmail and the phone. Its only the new entries you put on the phone yourself manually you need to put into gmail as they were saved to the default "Palm profile" instead of google (gmail).

Re: Move contacts from Palm Pre Plus into gmail

you can export your palm contacts....

ok its easy i swear

  1. Open the Phone App Phone App
  2. For CDMA phones, dial ##66623#. For GSM phones, dial #*66623# and press the green Call Button ( Phone Call)
  3. Tap the green "CelleBrite Export" button
  4. After "Step 1: Export File..." is complete, follow directions for "Step 2: Connect USB cable" and connect your phone to a computer via a USB cable
  5. Access the USB drive by tapping on USB drive notification
  6. Make sure that you set the option on the computer's File Manager to "Show hidden files and folders" and then open up the ".temp" folder on your phone
  7. A file called "PmMigration.vcf" will be inside the ".temp" folder. Just copy this file off your phone and on to your computer.
  8. Properly eject your USB drive. You can either just backup this file for later, or use it to import your contact list into a program or site that accepts .vcf files (e.g. Gmail

you can connect this to your microsoft contacts, gmail, etc

have fun ^^

Thank you very much for this post.  I have been trying to figure out how to do this for sometime and your instructions were clear, percise and easy.  Everything worked just like you said it would and it solved my problem.  You saved me a tonne of time.  Much appreciated!

Re: Move contacts from Palm Pre Plus into gmail

I made three attempts to export my Verizon Plam Pre contacts but ecountered the same problem each time. When I imported the PmMigration file into my Outlook file and then opened it, I had only the first entry of my contact list. I must be doing something wrong but I can't figure out what it is! The file creation on the phone takes more than several seconds (there are about 125 contacts), the connection to my computer is straight forward as is the transfer of the PmMigration file. Frustrating to say the least - hope you have a solution!

Thanks.
