I have 4 email accounts configured: 3 IMAP and 1 Exchange. The exchange server is my work email and I only need to check it on demand when some incident happens. So I have it set to Check manually (vs. timed intervals or "as they arrive" for the other accounts). However, it still checks on its own at times or intervals I have yet to explain. This leaves me with notifications to dismiss that I'd rather not get in the first place. This will happen even if I haven't opened the mail application at all. So there is no way I was accidentally triggering a manual sync. 

Has anyone else seen this? A solution? Some way to file a bug report to Palm?

This is listed as fixed in the leaked patch notes. As to when that patch will come......

Even with the WebOS 1.2.0 & 1.2.1 updates, I'm still having this problem.  When I go from "Airplane Mode On" to "Airplane Mode Off" the Pre will check my POP account that has its "Get Email" setting set for "Manual".

I have the same problem - set email pref to manual check but it still checks automatically even when I have not opened the app at all that day.  Annoying and battery wasting. Hope it is fixed soon.
