64 Bit Palm Desktop Drivers are HERE!

[ Edited ]

Thanks to the great folks over at Aceeca.com (makers of NEW PalmOS Garnet devices!), drivers for 64bit Vista and Windows 7 operating systems are here!  (Note: Neither HP, nor Palm can offer support for this driver since it was supplied by a third-party vendor).

I have just synced my TX to my Vista64 bit laptop successfully via my USB cable!  :smileyhappy:

The drivers are here:

http://aceeca.com/support/downloads_product?id_workgroup=1&id=6

There is an instruction file included with the download.

Basic instructions:

1. Download the drivers and unpack ("Extract" or "unzip") them. Since they come in a .zip compressed file, this is absolutely necessary. Remember the location of this folder you unpacked them to as you will be needing it later on in this install routine.

2. Try to HotSync your device.  It will fail.

3. Open the Device Manager, and look for the Yellow Triangle next to Palm Device under "Other devices".

4. Right-click on the device, and choose "Update Driver Software".

5. Choose "Browse My Computer for Software" and direct it to the Aceeca folder you unpacked the drivers to.

6. Choose "Next" at the driver file location window, and then tell it to "Always trust software from Aceeca Ltd." then click the "Install" button.

7. I received an error message (Vista64) that told me "The drivers were installed but the device couldn't be opened." I saw that my TX had timed out and went to sleep.  I tried a HotSync and it worked!!!  :smileyvery-happy:

Good luck!  Thanks again to Aceeca and Reb1 for reporting this link here.

Re: 64 Bit Drivers are HERE! (Thanks Aceeca corp.!)

Is this only for the Palm TX? What about Vista 64 and the Palm Treo 755P?

Thank you!

Meema, as quoted from the link I provided at Acceca: "USB Drivers for Palm/Garnet OS devices".  If your PalmOS is running Garnet (version 5.x), then it should work!

(Also, in my second sentence above I stated that I synced my TX to Vista64)  :smileywink:

Since this is all new, please let us know how it works for your phone!

Wyrenut, thanks for explaining that. I've never heard of Garnet.  I didn't even know what the TX is until I just Googled it.  Clearly, I am technologically challenged!  :--(

No problemo meema!

Note to everyone: Instead of reporting your difficulties with these new drivers here (and making a HUGE thread) I'm going to close this one.

If you need help installing the drivers start a new thread explaining:

1. What OS you're using.

2. What device you have.

3. What have you tried, and what happened/didn't happen?

Thanks!

Further advice for installing Aceeca 64 bit Drivers

After attempting your first HotSync and failing (as expected) you may be unable to find any trace of the device in Device Manaqer so making the next step quite difficult. This happened to me and after some investigation I discovered the following tip that allows Device Manager to show hidden and nonpresent devices.

Open up Notepad and paste the following two lines into it:

set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1

start devmgmt.msc

Save it as SetDev.bat into My Documents.

Open My Documents in Explorer and double click on SetDev.bat. Device Manager should open.

In the View menu select Show Hidden Devices.

You may now see under the Other heading the failed device with a yellow triangle against it.

You can now proceed to install the drivers as in the instructions.

Note that the driver supports most Palm OS versions. I'm actually using an Aceeca Meazura 1000 ruggedized PDA running OS 4.1

My Procedure for Successful Installation of Palm HotSync Drivers On Win7 OS Computer. This Driver Is For a HotSync of Most Palm Hand Held Devices (Palm-PDA, Centro, Treo, etc), To So-Called “Palm DeskTop”. Re:Further advice install Aceeca 64 bit Driver

[ Edited ]

Dear Palm Users

WOW !!!

I can now HotSync my Palm Centro to my Win7 LapTop!!!

All of it .... Photos, Calendar, Notes, Addresses / Phone#'s Etc!!!

WOW !!!

I'm so happy ... I decided to write up a complete "HOW_TO" document, to help persons like you to be able to do the same. You will be happy also!!

This is my way of "contributing back" .... for the many Resources, Forums, WebPages, SoftWare (Open Source & otherwise), I use daily on Internet.

Also my way of saying thank you to following persons / organizations:
A) Thank you .aceeca.com/ for originally coding the needed HotSync 64bid Vista & Win7 Drivers.
B) Thank you (again) .aceeca.com/ for making these drivers Internet available for free download.
C) Thanks to who-ever it was that a) Discovered the Aceeca Drivers, b) Realized their application to (urgently needed by users of all) Palm Devices HotSync Drivers for 64bid Vista & Win7 computers, and then c) Posted their discovery, for the whole world to use!!
D) And finally thanks to WyerNut, of forums.hpwebos.com/ for his moderation of all those Palm Forums, and having discovered the Aceeca Drivers, installed them on his Windows Vista. and then.took the time to post his own"HOW_TO"!! (A copy of which I have incorporated, with links, into my Win7 "HOW_TO" document, link below.)
E) Thank you all!!

TITLE: My Procedure for Successful Installation of Palm HotSync Driver On Vista & Win7 OS Computer. This Driver Is For a HotSync of Many (?Most?) Palm Hand Held Devices (Older Palm-PDA's, Centro, Treo, etc), To The So-Called "Palm DeskTop".

To HotSync many (?most?) PalmOS or HP/PalmWebOS Devices to 64bit Vista and Windows 7 operating systems, you can sucessfully use the needed hardware drivers from .aceeca.com/ However, getting them installed is not "an automatic". You will have to do the install yourself, step by step. If you need guidance, please click on the link next below, where you will read my "Complete Palm HotSync Aceeca Driver Installation Guide" at :
http://ww2.usca.edu/ResearchProjects/ProfessorGurr/Documents/PalmHotSyncDriverWin7Vista64bit

CAUTION: The Aceeca drivers are most certainly good for Win7 (and Win Vista) Palm Desktop Sync to most more recent PalmWebOS devices. And according to various Palm forums, there are statements that these drivers also work for the older PalmOS devices.

HOWEVER,

I have not tried this, and only seen a few reports of success by others. Concerning Aceeca Drivers, one report says " 64bit driver works with palm os4 and os5 smartphones and pda's" See this:
forums.precentral.net/palm-wm-devices/281016-64bit-driver-works-palm-os4-os5-smartphones-pdas.html

The Aceeca TroubleShootGuide, talks about Hotsync ACEECA Palm OS 4.x or Garnet OS 5.x device, in ways that suggest their 64bit driver will work on these devices:. unfortunately this .PDF seems, after much search, to be no longer available. The WayBackMachine says Aceeca Site has been many times archived, but currently I can't get it to work at either: http://web.archive.org/web/20110202084635/http://aceeca.com/

http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://aceeca.com/

I believe "The Aceeca TroubleShootGuide", needs to be available somewhere, & will eventually found posted somewhere on one WebSite or another. Please help look for it: It's old file name is as follows

/pub/english/Troubleshooting_USB_driver_installation_on_Windows_7_64-bit.pdf

I will continue to look for This "Aceeca TroubleShootGuide", and update my "Installation Guide" at my site (use link above) when or if, I find it. If you have any information how to get the "Aceeca TroubleShootGuide", please let me know HenryG _ usca.edu

HenrySGurr, thanks for posting your successful results.  For the sake of organizational sanity, reducing clutter and redundancy, please do not cross-post the same information on multiple threads.  I took the liberty of removing your additional posts.  Thanks.

Re: 64 Bit Palm Desktop Drivers are HERE!

Hi! New to the forum here. I have a beloved Zire71 and of course cannot perform a hot sync since I am on a new laptop with W 7.  Darn it. I am just wondering if the instructions for the 64 Bit Palm Desktop Drivers will help with this rather ancient Palm. I am very attached to it, and even though I have better cameras on my iPhone and my Sony, it always is so convenient to snap a photo of my cats, since by the time I get my other cameras handy, they have moved. Cats are like that.

Thanks for any feedback. Just seeing that there is a possibility- I do not have bluetooth obviously- and since I am overly fond of my Palm Zire 71, I would be more than thrilled if this is a possibility. We have tried everything else, but nothing works, of course.

Appreciate hearing back,
