Here's how to HotSync to Vista 64bit (Vista Home Premium) and Windows7 64bit via Wifi with a TX using Palm Desktop 6.2:
1. Install Palm Desktop 6.2, open the HotSync Manager (little Hotsync icon in the Tool Tray) and choose "Connections". Select "Network" and uncheck "USB".
2. Determine your Vista computer's IP address on your network. This can be found by going to Start Button/All Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt. A DOS window will now open. Type the following ipconfig /all (there is a space between the g and the /). A lot of data will pop up. On my Vista laptop, my IP address is listed as "IpV4 Address - 192.168.x.xxx" (Your computer may display it differently.) Write this address down, then close the DOS window.
3. Now go to your TX. Turn on Wifi and connect to your router. Open the HotSync icon. Be sure the word "Network" is highlighted over the large Hotsync button in the center, and below it says "Tap to Select PC". If Network is highlighted and you don't see "Tap to Select PC", then open the Options pull-down menu (in top left corner of the Hotsync program on the TX) and select "Modem Sync Prefs". Be sure "Network" is selected. Also check "LANSync Prefs" and be sure "LANSync" is selected. Click OK, and now you should see the "Tap to Select PC".
4. Tap the box to Select PC, and the Network HotSync Setup screen will open and ask you to tap "Next". Most likely, the next step will fail (I've never seen it find a computer!). Tap the "Other" button at the bottom to enter your PC's IP address. (You can try entering the name of the computer on the network, but I've had better success with entering the IP address first. It will then find the name after a successful HotSync.)
5. Enter the IP address you wrote down in step #2 above, then tap Next. Tap Done on the next screen that says "Network Hotsync Setup is complete".
6. Back at the Hotsync screen, tap the big Hotsync icon in the center and hold on! Your computer should recognize it and start to Hotsync.
Optional: If you are familiar with router settings, I'd highly suggest you set "Static IP's" (or sometimes called "Reservations" ) for both your Palm TX and the PC you're syncing with. It will make things much more reliable.
Hope this helps!

That is really a good explanation! Thanks.
Now, for a real dummy, do I need a WIFI Router in my network? I doubt that the fact that my computer is WIFI enabled will work. I have been thinking about going wireless and this make all the difference.
Thanks in advance,
Dave

Yes, you will need a router. This is the heart of a Wifi network.
Some Wifi 101 can be found here at BrightHand.com: http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=98008

These directions are excellent! However, I am receiving an error message "Network(TCP/IP) connectin failed to initialize (Error startint TCP listen)" when I try to and check the Netork(TCP/IP) box in the HotSync Manager under connections. I tried to use the help button in HotSync Manager. From what I can tell the reason I am receiving this message is due to the fact that I have never synced to my new computer (I can't sync using the USB cable due to the Vista 64-bit operating system). Do you know of any solutions to this problem? Thanks.Post relates to: Palm TX
Strangely enough, I have seen this error message once or twice when I've powered on my laptop after a normal shutdown! I've closed the error message, and things worked fine.
I'd suggest making sure you have admin priviledges, and turned off UAC in the Control Panel for your User account. I've yet to have a Hotsync failure using this method. Just works every time! ![]()
As a suggestion, give your computer a Static IP on your network, as well as your TX. It will make everything work faster and more reliably. If you installed Palm Desktop with UAC active, it may be necessary to uninstall/reinstall with it dead to get things to work correctly.
Good luck!

Thanks WyreNut for the detailed notes; however, there is one that I'd like to add from my past 2-days of trying to make this work... the PC must be wired.
I was trying to connect Mrs. ThisIsBox's Palm TX to her new Vista 64 machine, but it wasn't hotsync-ing. Her PC is always wireless. Though I had a static IP on the machine, it just would not connect to sync. On a whim, I pulled the machine into my office near the router, plugged in the Ethernet cable, and changed the IP to the new address. It hotsync-ed right off the bat.
So, don't be a Bob... connect the PC before trying to hotsync.
Thanks again, WyreNut!

You're quite welcome Bob, however I have never hard-wired my new laptop to my router. I simply entered the IP address (a static one I'd set for it) into my TX and away we flew!
But far be it from me to argue with your success!!
Glad to help.
