For years I had Palm TX with tons of data synchronizing with Windows XP running 4.1.4 Palm desktop software. Just bought new laptop running 64-bit Windows 7. Tried to install Palm Desktop 6.2 -- no luck! Installation encounters error and does not go through. Tried to install Palm desktop 4.1 -- the installation did not go through either. What should I do??
I need to migrate my Palm data from Windows XP running Palm 4.1 desktop to Windows 7 (64 bit) running any version of Palm desktop, and synchronize desktop with client. Any suggestions? I'm OK even to buy a new version of Palm hardware. I'm perfectly happy with Palm TX, though, so if I can get it to work somehow with Windows 7 64-bit, that would be terrific!
What should I do?
Thank you very much!

Update: I was able to install Palm 4.2 desktop software on windows 7, but when I plug in handheld, the system complains that the driver has not been installed correctly. Also, desktop complains that COM1 port is not available, and shows no portas available at all in sync tool configuration. What should I do to fix that?
Thank you very much!

Please see this thread. You will not be able to perform a USB wired HotSync with a 64-bit edition of Windows.
I was able to to HotSync my TX to a 64-bit version of Windows 7 Enterprise Edition over a Wi-Fi connection and Palm Desktop 6.2.2.

Unbelievable and inexcusable a year after the release of Windows 7. No wonder Palm is sucking dust.

Hello,
My husband has a TX that he worships, and we have a new 64-bit laptop running Windows 7. I installed Palm 6.2 and the application's getting his archived calendar/contacts/memos (moved from his old machine) but I'm unable to sync. The TX and laptop can see each to other but the sync just doesn't happen.
The Palm instructions everyone points to (Bluetooth sync with 64-bit) are good but don't work for me. After setting up Bluetooth, the Palm said to set up a "virtual serial port" -- like I know what that means. But I think I was able to do that. Still no luck. I'd like to solve this myself with forum input, if possible. To be frank, I'm not crazy about remote chat taking control of my machine.

In its default state my HotSync did not have a Bluetooth option. It allowed me to create a virtual serial port, and this worked successfully except that when I booted up HotSync would continually complain about COM ports not being available. It seemed not to get the one it wanted, and then tried all the other Virtual COM ports set up for Bluetooth (and there were A LOT of them in the default setup). The constant beeping and need to press OKAY on the error message used to annoy me each time I booted up.
So I found several references about removing thrid party Bluetooth drivers and just using the standard Windows drivers. I found that my system had Toshiba Bluetooth drivers installed (look under Control Panel -> Programs and Features) and with some trepidation I uninstalled this.
Now I see a Bluetooth option in HotSync Settings -> Connections and it works flawlessly. Well except for the fact that it doesn't write to the hotsync log, so I have no detailed record of what happened or didn't happen — see the adjoining thread on that one. However, I don't think that problem is related to Bluetooth.
