Pm Trace Database Error

I have a Palm TX and try to HotSync to my Vista computer.  The sync seems to work except for the last erro message:

PM Trace database
Protocol error: Handheld file could not be opened (4004)
syncerr_file_not_open

Why does this happen and how can I fix it?

1. download and install FileZ from here
http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/filez.shtml
2. Launch FileZ and tap on view and edit files
3. Open the internal folder and tap pmtracedatabase and put a check mark next to it
4. Tap details
5. Tap on the "Attrs" tab
6. Uncheck the box next to backup
7. Click Save
8. Sync
The pmtracedatabase is a built in ROM file and does not affect the usage of the device. It is a legacy file and is no longer used by the operating system and palm desktop 6.2 lacks the ability to back the file up.
If you ever do a hard reset you will have to reinstall the filez application and remask the file to keep the error from coming back.

Re: Pm Trace Database Error

THANK YOU!

I had the same Error Message when synchronizing my new Centrol with Outlook 2003 / Windows XP Home svc pk 3, and no ill effects but error message after every Hot Sync.

Your solution using Filez, and following your instructions below worked beautifully and solved the issue for me too.

Thank you so much for participating in this forum so that others like me can easily solve our Palm headaches!!!!

Re: Pm Trace Database Error

Did you install it to your device?
Did you launch the program?

I get as far as tapping on the details button. Then I get a message "this operation allows only one item to be selected". But there is only one file checked.

Any ideas??

TIA

edit: Yah, here's a good one....make sure the entire "internal" tree is not checked. LOL
