Synchronizing Palm Centro Windows 7 (64 bit)

I was dismayed to discover, when I had to purchase a new PC, which came with Windows 7 (64 bit), that my Centro (Verizon) could not HotSync via the USB cable.  I did find the following instructions to HotSync with Bluetooth (with which I am not familiar).

http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/49229_en.html

I purchased a Targus Bluetooth 2.0 Adapter (ACB10US) at our local Staples, then phoned Targus to verify that it i

s compatible with Windows 7 (64 bit).  I was advised that it is - to follow the installation directions (for Vista) in the package and, if it did not install successfully to download an update from the Broadcom website - but, this was not necessary.

Once I installed the Bluetooth Adapter and it appeared on my PC as a device, I followed the directions on the page above, but my Centro did not find my PC.

I phoned Palm Support and a rep guided me through configuring the Bluetooth settings and settings in HotSync Manager to change for first time synchronization.  My Centro "found" my PC and I was able to successfully HotSync!  It took a while (about 25 minutes) as I have a lot of third party programs on the Centro.  There was only one minor error (SysZLib.prc already exists), but everything else appears to be just fine, including adding files to third party desktop programs (E-Wallet, ThoughtManager, etc.).  Everything seems fine.

I hope this will be helpful to others with a Palm Centro and Windows 7 (64 bit).

I am under the impression that the Palm Centro will sync with VISTa 64 not Windows 7 64. I s this not correct

Re: Synchronizing Palm Centro Windows 7 (64 bit)

Sid40,

The Centro will sync with Windows 7 64bit. At this time we have not done testing on Palm Desktop to know if it will run reliability on the new OS. I have talked to customers and helped them successfully setup a Bluetooth sync on Windows 7. Right now we are providing the software "as is". If you have any more questions please see the link I posted above and/or post back.

Re: Synchronizing Palm Centro Windows 7 (64 bit)

I have tried bluetooth syncing with my new laptop with Windows 7 but my device keeps saying "port in use".  This happens whether I have "serial" clicked or not.  HELP!

Re: Synchronizing Palm Centro Windows 7 (64 bit)

I have the same problem. Palm Tech Support said I had to wait until they put out a desktop compatible with Windows 7. The Palm Community in some posts acts like it shuld work. I am frustrtedly confused.

I get this error message once in a while.  Here's what works for me:  Right click on HotSync icon, then click on Settings, then Connections and make sure "Bluetooth" is the only option checked.  Then, exit HotSync and restart it.

That thread did not really fix the problem but I had read in someone else's post about uninstalling the program and reinstalling it after setting up the bluetooth and this worked.

Re: Synchronizing Palm Centro Windows 7 (64 bit)

Try setting up your phone's bluetooth connection with the computer first, then uninstall Palm desktop and reinstall it from the site.  When the install guide says "push sync button"  use the sync button on your phone.  First make sure that under settings on your computer's Palm Desktop icon only Bluetooth is checked.
