I run my Palm Tungsten E (bought in 2005) using the HotSync Manager 4 with no problem.
I just got a new HP laptop and attempted to install the HotSync Manager, the disk didn't have the software to do the install.
I downloaded HotSync Manager 7.0.2 in an attempt to resolve the problem. The result is the same - the HotSync doesn't run and NO error message to tell me what the problem may be!
Has anyone had any success in running a successful HotSync the Tungsten E on Windows.

Update: I am installed the Palm Desktop (by Access) version 6.2.2 off the Palm support site, since it was created to be compatible with Windows Vista. I've been told software that will run Vista should be able to run Windows 7.
Also, I checked both firewalls: Windows 7 and Norton 360 to insure that the "HotSync Manager Application" C:\Program Files (x86)\Palm\Hotsync.exe are allowed!
FYI - I just noticed that the HotSync Manager 7.0.2 doesn't list the USB connection option? Which is how I am connected to my laptop.
Although the HotSync Manager HELP screen states:
The Connections page displays all available ways for your device to connect with the desktop. The connections displayed are those that are supported by your desktop. USB, Network (TCP/IP), and Serial connections are always displayed. Bluetooth, Wi Fi, and Infrared are displayed if the computer has the hardware capability.
What can I do to get the connection option of USB?

As mentioned in many other threads, there is no way to sync normally to any 64 bit OS via the USB cable included with PalmOS devices. There is no USB driver available anywhere that will allow this action to work. (When I state "normally", I'm referring to those users who have reported installing "Virtual XP" to the higher-end version of Win7 seems to provide this ability!)
The regular workaround is by syncing via a wireless method. This includes IrDA, BlueTooth, or Wifi. Your T|E has only IrDA.
Please see my response to your other post in this section.

I have a Tungsten E2 and once I set it up with a bluetooth connection, it works just fine.

I like many others have moved on and I am running Windows 7-64 bit on a workstation without IR or Bluetooth. I also have a Tungsten E and have a few questions about syncing before I invest any more time and resources in work arounds. If I set my workstation up for IR and go down the IR path will I be able to sync my Outlook 2007 Contacts and Calendar? What exactly do I need to do. So far I installed the palm 6.2 software. Besides working through the IR issue with my workstation, are there any other software additions that I should be aware of? Thanks.

You should not need any additional software besides Palm Desktop 6.2, Microsoft Outlook, and whatever software/drivers are associated with your IR/Bluetooth solution. These 3 components are all that is needed whether you use Bluetooth or IR.
Hope this helps,

I have read alot of the posts regarding hot sync problems with Windows 7. I have a Tungsten E and Windows 7 64 bit, home edition. If I understand correctly, only IR will work as a means of hot syncing. No bluetooth and I don't have the higher end Windows for virtual XP mode. As I am fairly tech ignorant, my question is how do I go about setting that up. I followed the suggesting of trying to get an IR adapter, but had trouble finding one online. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is it something you plug into the USB port? Thanks for any help!

Thanks, this solution worked for me. It is important to note that you have to follow paul71666's instructions all the way to the bottom of his post.
I was able to purchase a Syba SD-U1IRDA-NM USB Fast Infra-red Adapter for $11.70 (plus shipping) from Amazon. This adapter has MOSCHIP 7780 IrDA hardware and the Windows 7 64-bit driver installed automatically when I plugged it in.
