What version of Vista are you using? 32bit or 64bit?
If 64 bit, follow the instructions at the top of this section for syncing to a 64bit system ("64 bit hotsync Drivers are here!")

Try right-clicking on the shortcut for Palm Desktop, then "Run as Administrator".
Also, be sure UAC (User Account Control) is turned off. Control Panel/Users/Turn off UAC.

Worked great! Was able to get the desktop up, and to sync using Bluetooth USB. Thanks much for your help. Shouldn't I turn user controll back on now? Thanks...

Glad it worked!
Palm used to recommend it remain off. I've seen this recommendation from other software authors too.
The final decision is yours! Turn it off, and see what happens. Reporting back here could help us all learn...

I think I will try to take off user control when I want to sync, and then back on afterward and see how that works. .
I have learned a great deal from reading the posts and replies to questions, like getting a Bluetooth dongle to try, as this handheld has bluetooth technology. Also, about trying clean uninstall. But when it came to fiddling with the registry...that was too scary for me. I have much to learn, so maybe, someday.... Thanks again.
