hotsyncs-no desktop; install desktop-no hotsync

TungstenE2 with Vista; was able to hotsync (handheld says largely successful). But no desktop comes up with data. Only a desktop with pictures (Palm by Access). Instructions that came with this handheld (a replacement for an older one) states to install desktop 6.2, which I did. The desktop comes up fine on my Toshiba laptop (2005 version), but I have tried everything to get a hotsync to work. The message is that no connection can be made, and to check setup. Please help!??

Can't get desktop data up with TungstenE2 & Vista32

Hotsync successful reported, but desktop Palm Access came up blank sync data; used USB cable. Downloaded desktop 6.2 per installation instructions; now will not even make sync connection. Got a bluetooth USB dongle; wonder if that would work??? Or what else to try? HELP!!! Please?

Can't find correct desktop!Tunsgten E2/Vista

Data from older TungstenE2 shows on desktop; could not sync this handheld to the desktop. Tried everything! Installed desktop 6.2, Palm Desktop with Access, no data shows up. Unstalled, and used installation CD which came with this TungstenE2, same thing. Can sync with Access desktop, using bluetooth dongle to Vista laptop, it says), but no data in desktop. I am ready to quit trying unless someone replies to my posts! to HELP...!

Re: Can't find correct desktop!Tunsgten E2/Vista

What version of Vista are you using?  32bit or 64bit?

If 64 bit, follow the instructions at the top of this section for syncing to a 64bit system ("64 bit hotsync Drivers are here!")

Re: Can't find correct desktop!Tunsgten E2/Vista

Try right-clicking on the shortcut for Palm Desktop, then "Run as Administrator".

Also, be sure UAC (User Account Control) is turned off.  Control Panel/Users/Turn off UAC.

Re: Can't find correct desktop!Tunsgten E2/Vista

Worked great!  Was able to get the desktop up, and to sync using Bluetooth USB. Thanks much for your help.  Shouldn't I turn user controll back on now?  Thanks...

Re: Can't find correct desktop!Tunsgten E2/Vista

Glad it worked!

Palm used to recommend it remain off.  I've seen this recommendation from other software authors too.

The final decision is yours!  Turn it off, and see what happens.  Reporting back here could help us all learn...

Re: Can't find correct desktop!Tunsgten E2/Vista

I think I will try to take off user control when I want to sync, and then back on afterward and see how that works. .

I have learned a great deal from reading the posts and replies to questions, like getting a Bluetooth dongle to try, as this handheld has bluetooth technology. Also, about trying clean uninstall. But when it came to fiddling with the registry...that was too scary for me. I have much to learn, so maybe, someday....  Thanks again.
