I recently wanted "My contacts" instead of "All contacts" so I decided to set up EAS according to this post: http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id
Very handy. However, once I set up my contacts, the pre decides that I have to use EAS for my calendar and email as well. Ok, I guess that's fine (at least give me the option?), calendar and contacts work but EAS does not seem to be working with gmail. Headers load, but I get the following message when I try to read email:
"Download of the message body timed out. The system will retry soon."
While this may be a google problem, I assume it's a Pre problem. I am using 1.2.1 which I thought fixed EAS issues, but...apparently not.
Also someone suggested taking the battery out, which, shockingly, does not work.
Any help?

Have you removed the account did a restart and then added the account back in? What about a Partial/Full Erase? If you can try that I will push this up.
But the Pre was designed around Google to have you sync your contacts and calendar. While I think this is neat that Google has this service with the Pre I don't see the need.
But still this is the 2nd time I seen this issue. So it does need to be addressed.

As recommended, I've tried a
1) Remove the account
2) Full Erase
3) Re-setup the EAS account.
Problem still exists. Going to try to WebOS Doctor my Pre next.

The issue was having 'all contacts' (500+) added with the Pre sync, vs 'my contacts' (60+) with the exchange server. All I need are contacts, but Pre adds mail and calendar, and you can't delete one without deleting them all, and you have no say in what gets synced. The iPhone deals with this issue like so:

Yes, I have tried removing and adding it back - my 'solution' was to add my IMAP gmail back, delete the google calendar and contact accounts that were created (is it so hard to ask me if I want those?), and turn exchange mail to "manual update" and only keep 1 day of mail. So, I have Gmail via Pre synch (IMAP) and EAS for calendar and contacts, with the EAS email account as close to disabled as I could make it. Ugly, but it'll do till palm fixes the remaining exchange issues.

I got feedback today about this issue and unfortunately we do not support the Google EAS variant of syncing and that is why the sync does not work fully. If you feel this is something we should support please leave feedback at www.palm.com/feedback
