O2 Pre SOS Only problem - 1 sim 2 pre's.

Hi there,

Im looking for some help if anyone has any idea whats going on! I've had a Pre from O2 in the UK since launch and havent had any problems with it, love it. I bought one from a classified ad which was also an O2 UK pre. I got this home and popped my sim card in it to get it setup and created a profile for the mrs and the phone started up and had a 3g connection and a phone signal but i couldnt make calls, it would just fail saying "unable to connect" immediately but 3g seemed ok as this was needed to create profile.... taken sim out and popped back into my pre, works fine calls and 3g.... swapped back into other pre and all that gets is SOS Only in the top corner, no data or phone connection at all....tried jamming some paper in sim catch to make sure sim was making contact correctly, no change, went into phone options and switched carrier from auto to o2 and then others and back, no change... i tried prett much every combination of these settings and no change but as soon as sim back in my pre it works fine.... tried erasing everything on new one and going through profile part again but now even after reset the phones doesnt even have 3g connection so im just stuck with it doing nothing....

Has anyone got any ideas on this, it's obviously not the sim as thats fine on my Pre.... I would welcome any suggestions as have paid around £300 for this handset and would ove to get it running...

NB - this seemed the most appropriate place to post this thread, if not then I apologise and request it to be moved.

Thanks,

So I'm understanding the issue, your Pre is working fine but the one you bought through the paper is not. You mentioned that you did resets on the Pre that is not working, was that just the restart or a Partial/full erase on the device? You may need to have the device replaced. And in this case you should probably return it back to the original order and see if they will be willing to give you a refund due to this one is not working at all.

I am having the same problem. I purchased this used pre and when I pop in my O2 sim card, it says SOS only and doesn't allow me to create any profile.

Any help will be really appreciated.

Re: O2 Pre SOS Only problem - 1 sim 2 pre's.

Thanks for your prompt reply, I flashed my phone using webdoctor (webosdoctorp100ueu-wr). Now I don't get the SOS problem but I am not getting 3g icon. It shows O2 and when i try to login with my profile it says no network.

When I see the phone settings, i don't see anything there, but when I put the APN settings for O2( got it from customer care), it says "Invalid Internet APN Settings" between flash of a second.

Re: O2 Pre SOS Only problem - 1 sim 2 pre's.

sharad82,

There are two sets of APN settings, one for internet and one for MMS. Check your carrier again and see if they gave you the one for Internet. Also check out your SIM card and see if it works in another phone or Pre if you can. If you can take it to a store and have them check it out that would be best, this way they can be sure all the settings are correct. This will determine if it is a phone issue or network settings issue.

Re: O2 Pre SOS Only problem - 1 sim 2 pre's.

The settings are indeed the Internet settings and NOT mms. My sim is working fine on another device ( HTC HD2). So it looks out to be a phone issue :smileysad:

Thanks,

Re: O2 Pre SOS Only problem - 1 sim 2 pre's.

I'm actually having a similar problem - I got a hold of an O2 Pre from CEX, with the plan being to use my O2 Pay & Go sim in it. So I got the phone and plugged my sim in, and tried to register a profile, and got the "not connected error". I plugged the phone in to my laptop and use WebOS Doctor to flash the phone to 1.3.1, and that didnt help. I could try and set up the APN manually, but I was just given an "invalid access point settings" error.

So, this morning, I popped a friend's O2 contract sim in to my Pre, and it proceded to go through registration without a hitch. Great... I can use the phone now! The only problem is, when I put my Pay & Go sim back in, it still refused to work (despite the fact that it showed the O2 network in the status bar at the top of the phone, and that it had signal). No calls would connect (not even emergency calls.. I checked just in case).  I tried manual settings to no avail, and then I tried using the (working) wifi connection to update to 1.3.5.2. Now the phone won't even connect to the network. Once again I have tried manual settings, and it shows the O2 network (along with Orange, T-Mobile etc), but will not connect to it. The status bar says "SOS Only", but once again, even that does not work.

To confirm, the SIM works perfectly well in my Nokia E71. I've flashed the phone to different software versions, done full erases etc.

Could it be that somehow O2 have managed to lock the phone down to Contract sims? Its certainly not a true sim-lock, because I tried, out of interest, inserting an Orange PAYG sim into the phone, and that said "Check Sim", which is different to the behaviour I have now.

I don't want to have to admit defeat and take the phone back as unusable... But I'm struggling to see any option at the moment.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Re: O2 Pre SOS Only problem - 1 sim 2 pre's.

I'm having an SOS Only problem, but I don't think it's the same...

I bought my Palm last week, new from Phones4U and I had a new SIM (as my old one was so old it wasn't 3G). It was working fine until yesterday, when it went to 'SIM lock-SOS only' randomly at lunch time. I rebooted at 5pm and then it worked fine.

But then again today it did exactly the same thing, went to 'SIM lock-SOS only' around 1pm, I didn't notice until I left work, rebooted immediately and it's fine again. I would say it's a network problem, but the wording 'SIM lock' suggests it's not.

Any ideas?

Re: O2 Pre SOS Only problem - 1 sim 2 pre's.

djeglin,

I suggest that you contact O2 or go to there store and see if you can swap out your SIM. It could be that your SIM is corrupted or that it needs newer settings and that is why it does not work on the Pre. I understand that you tested this SIM card on a Nokia device and it works, if I may ask how old is that device?
