i have a treo and i'm on verizons network, is there a way that i can edit the software version so i can update it to verizon?

Hello Kryptik and welcome to the Palm forums.

 There is no way wthat I'm aware of to change the software on your Treo in the manor you are talking about.  I would suggest that you bring the phone to a local Verizon store and see if their tech can unlock the phone so it can work on the Verizon Wireless network.  I was under the impression that Altel was purchased by Verizon Wireless and that their radio technology (CDMA, EVDO) are compatible.

well from what i read the treo 700wx is not locked, (the subsidy code is  000000 ) and that the software version could be flashed ( kricket does it ) if i goto verizon they would change my phone to a "prepaid service with a contract" i'm on a 3rd party service provider from verizon.... they " don't have the capability " to fix my phone. all i need to do is get the cdma settings corrected (my phone is stuck in roaming mode)  and i think that would fix my problem.

Have you tried a "hard reset"? This erases all data on the phone and returns it to factory specification. Obviously a sync and backups would be highly recommended first.

A hard reset, as far as I know, won't change, or clear, the cellular provider's settings.

well i found some info that i needed to "fix the settings" 1st i did a RTN reset (##RTN#), then i ran the CDMAFirmware.exe from the Treo700wx_1_24_VZW_EN_SDUpdater.zip file. then after that i pulled the batery out , while holding the vol up button i put the battery in hit the up button on the d pad ( NapaBoth.nb0 file) instalation, let it dl software, then it came back on, i pluged the phone up to the computer usb, ran sync, now it's all working, my phone says verizon wireless, but my radio software still says Rowen..... i haven't found a way to change it yet but i am working on it. this will work for all carriers (sprint u need your mdl # for it to work) my internet works correctly now, No #777 dial up, i have txt messaging feature,sms,and the verizon apps. i recomend dl task manager so u can close"open or running apps"

It sounds like you accomplished exactly what I would like to try. Previously an Alltel user, after the merger now on Verizon. I have a Treo 700wx and would like to load the latest Verizon update to get Windows Mobile 6. After the update did you have to contact Verizon to reactivate the phone or anything, or did it just work with the new software? How did you run the update? From SD card? Thanks!
