Yahoo Mail and Palm Pre

I have been experiencing problems with my paid Yahoo e-mail account.

Over this first week of my Pre, Yahoo and the pre have been getting better. At first, my deleted e-mails were not being deleted from the Yahoo server. Now they are.

Here's my last two problems:

1) I have set my syncing to manual (to try to deal with my battery life issues) and yet the Pre still periodically retrieves my e-mail... Not a big deal, but see #2.

2) Even when I go to Airplane Mode or even turn my phone off, I still get a Yahoo error 5 code when trying to connect to my e-mail via web browser. This error indicates that "some other device has logged into you account and thus e-mail is not accessible now". I need to do that to tag mails as spam or not since the Pre's e-mail app does not support that. I am eventually able to retrieve e-mail through web client on PC. It's as though one or both sides does not release the connection. (I do have a ticket entered at Yahoo).

Any comments would be appreciated...

Thanks

Re: Yahoo Mail and Palm Pre

I have a "ticket" into Yahoo but in the mean time I deleted the Yahoo account, waited a couple of days and then added it back.

This "re-install" seems to be fine!! I have ALL of my inboxes now and can actually be in both the phone mail app AND the web client on a PC and actually be working in both places at the same time AND BOTH SIDES SEEM TO BE REAL TIME!!!!

Thanks Palm and/or Yahoo...

But I will try and reply anyway...

No, I just added the account back and it "worked". I thought it was pop but now that I look at my settings it is set up as IMAP.

Incoming server settings:

palm.imap.mail.yahoo.com

username = my complete e-mail address

password = (mine of course)

Port # (as assigned by Yahoo on their e-mail settings page)

Encrytption = SSL

Outgoing server settings:

palm.smtp.mail.yahoo.com

Use Authentication = ON

username = e-mail address

password (of course)

Port # (see Yahoo)

Encryption = SSL

Roor folder is blank

 Again, mine is a paid Yahoo account.

Hope that is helpful, and sorry I somehow deleted your post!!!

Re: Yahoo Mail and Palm Pre

[ Edited ]

I set up four Yahoo accounts on my Pre with no problem, using the specified incoming and outgoing server settings, including incoming port number 993 and outgoing port number 465. But I have two rocketmail and ymail accounts, both of which are on Yahoo's servers, and I can't find the correct configurations anywhere.

Does anyone know of the correct configurations for rocketmail and/or ymail?

Re: Yahoo Mail and Palm Pre

I figured it out, rocketmail and ymail use same settings as Yahoo mail, it just wasn't working before.

Re: Yahoo IM

Ok.... i'm new to this :smileysurprised:

don't put your hair out yet.....anyways

i think i found a solution to the yahoo im problem.....

its called meebo.com.... goto web on the pre

and type in your login password....(works with all of them *IM's*)

but the trick is that they have to contact you first.... so the message board will pop up

i been using it all day.... (no sound tho....from what i can see...maybe i'm wrong)

give it a shot and try it out :smileywink:

good luck

Re: Yahoo Mail and Palm Pre - deleting your yahoo (paid) account

How do you do that and do you still get all your folders with their content back?  I've got way too much in my Yahoo Inbox.  Does it start on your PRE with the NEW messages in your Yahoo inbox?

Thanks,

Re: Yahoo Mail and Palm Pre - deleting your yahoo (paid) account

Load the e-mail app. Press the E-mail menu item in the upper left hand corner. Select Preferences & Accounts. Scroll down to the Accounts section and open your Yahoo account. Scroll down to "Remove Account" and press that. After you remove the account all your e-mails will be deleted from the Pre. I waited a couple of days. I was waiting to her from Yahoo, but never did., Anyway I went through adding the Yahoo account back in ( Load e-mail app, E-mail menu from upper right hand corner, Preferences & Accounts, scroll down to "Add An Account" and enter the data for your Yahoo account. I did NOT have to re-enter all the server (SMTP and IMAP info). It was already there. And yes, you will now "retrieve" from Yahoo all your folders...

Although, I now am experiencing this: I have my sync setting to show 7 days of mail. It used to remove from the Pre the eighth day ago as I went from day 7 into day 8. Now ALL of those e-0mails are staying...

Palm???

Thanks

Re: Yahoo Mail and Palm Pre - I STILL HAVE HAD NO RESPOSE TO MY QUESTION

[ Edited ]

I am having no luck setting up my yahoo email with my phone.  Do I need to pay for yahoo's POP service?  Please take me through the steps from the start if there is a way to set up yahoo mail.
