tether palm to laptop

 I am having issues tethering my Palm 700p to my new laptop.  My services provider is Alltel my lap top is a Sony Vaio with Windows Vista 32.  Is there any way to do this I have gotten the runaround from technical support for the last four hours.  I had downloaded and used the software on my old laptop with no trouble.  I'm I just out of luck with Vista?

Was your old system XP? If so, that is why it worked.
