Broken Power Button

Well, simply put, I have a broken power button.

It seems to be stuck down. It won't click at all and won't work unless I push on it very hard. I didn't drop the phone before it broke. It just kinda.. Died.

What I'm wondering is if I can bring it to the Sprint Store and get it swapped, or am I stuck with a broken power button?

Re: Broken Power Button

I would take it into a Sprint Store to see what they can do for you.

Re: Broken Power Button

I am bumping this thread to report the same problem. I took the phone into Sprint on Saturday and they told me that this is a known hardware problem. They said Palm is aware of it as well and they are replacing the phone with no questions asked.

Re: Broken Power Button

Well, I'm back. Sprint did in fact replace my Pre.

However, 4 months later the replacement phone has had the same thing happen to it; the power button mysteriously just doesn't work. The phone wasn't dropped, kicked, thrown, etc. It just stopped working.

I took it back into the same Sprint store this morning and was told that I had to go through insurance. Naturally, I explained to them that this was the second time this had happened and that they had no issue replacing it 4 months ago under identical circumstances. The manager informed me that 4 months ago my Pre had been replaced as a "courtesy" and they were not willing to extend the same offer today and that I would have to go through insurance.

This is a corporate account so I'm escalating to my rep but I thought I'd pass along this small update.

This is my 7th Pre. 8 times the charm?

Re: Broken Power Button

I had the same problem in December, took it to the Sprint store. Tech claimed the corporate issued resolution was to take the little piece of rubber that covers the power port on another phone and insert it under the power button in the Pre, similar to the paper solution reported on other forums. That worked for about 2 months, but now it's back to acting up again. Everything else is working fine on the phone. Should I expect a replacement when I take it back? Do I even want a replacement if everything else is working ok?

UGH! This just happened to me today. I plan on taking it back.

What did you guys do about your data (memos, tasks, etc.)?

Thanks

Re: Broken Power Button

My power button has broken twice now.  The first time they made me pay to replace it, and I am about to take in the new one 4 months later.  I was reading about the fixes last night when I was in a dimly lit restaurant waiting.  I popped off the power button to try the paper fix, but the power button flew off and I was not able to find it.  So now I have no power button, and I cant even turn the phone on with a pen or a paperclip.  Does anyone know how to turn it on without a button?  I cant get to the store this week so I am out of a phone until next week.

Re: Broken Power Button

This just happened to my phone, but I guess I'm "lucky" because I had the Pre for 8 months before experiencing this issue.  Does anyone have a solution?  I doubt Sprint would replace my phone now that I've had it so long.

Re: Broken Power Button

i had the same expectation, because they charged me for the 1st replacement.  but i took it in for the second time and they replaced it, no questions asked.  i was expecting a fight, but they didn't say a thing.  i even kind of said, "ive read on the internet that this is a really common problem" and they said, "yeah, it is."  good luck!

Re: Broken Power Button

I took mine in and they actually "fixed" it. It's been a week and the button works fine again.
