GPS Way off

I damaged my screen on my first palm pre and had it sent back. The new phone I received in exchange has GPS issues. When I load google maps, or run the diagnostics (##477#) it consistanly says I am in one specific place 180 km from my current position, even if I am moving. I am concerned that the GPS in my replacemant phone is damaged. My phone has been updated, and I have resarted it twice to see if that would fix the problem, but it is still not working. Any suggestions?

Re: GPS Way off

Make sure GPS is enabled. If it is not it will still give you a location based on Cell signal, and not accurate. Even the ##477# get fix will tell you a fix with GPS disabled. To make sure Go to the Location Services app. Click the drop down Preferences and under Locate Me Using..... make sure Use GPS is checked. If it is not, click it to turn it on. If it already is checked, then there is another issue.

Re: GPS Way off

Most GPS are slow at getting a position the first time you use them.

Have you had it on for like 5-10min when sitting still outside so that it got a chance to get a good position fix?

Re: GPS Way off

This seems to be a problem with all the Verizon Palm Pre's, mine is not working right either. There is a lot of discussion about the GPS not working on Verizon branded Pre's but working fine on Sprint branded Pre's.

Re: GPS Way off

i just got the pre, the gps worked perfect "pre" update, pun intended!!, but now after i got updated to 1.4.0. so i can do the video recording, gps is broken and so is ringtones.  when i say ringtones i mean that when i go to select a ringtone and want to listen to it before i select it, i don't hear anything.  and like the gps, before 1.4.0. these functions/apps worked perfectly.

anyone have an explanation/solution to my problem??

thank you in advance palm community.

Re: GPS Way off

I was also have an infinite amount of problems with GPS on the Pre until I realized that there are more options to the Location Services app (?) than I initially realized. In Location Services hit the pull down menu and you should see some more options.

Google Services - Location Services

Google Services came turned off by default and turning it on made a hell lot of difference in locating me. I'm guessing it uses the Google Services to give me an initial estimate based on the cell tower/wifi and then it narrows down via the typical aGPS magic.
