Palm Pre...Battery life? Can't stay charged for a day!

For those of you who have the new Palm Pre...please tell me how you keep your battery charged without it going down from 100% at the beginning of the day to 30% by 3PM!?!?  How are we supposed to use the Pre if you cannot be assured the battery life will sustain throughout any given day?

Too inconvenient to have it plugged in somewhere just to get a charge!

HELP!  :smileysad:

Re: Palm Pre...Battery life? Can't stay charged for a day!

I would say don't run background applications. Turn off Wi-Fi when not in use. Turn off GPS when not in use. If you have a message service running like AIM or Google, turn that off by going to message, clicking on buddies, and selecting Offline. If you are running hotmail, I hear there is a syncing bug that causes the email to drain your battery fast. Otherwise I'm personally getting through a 12 hour day without charging with my GPS on and occasionally sending out emails, sms ing, facebooking and web browsing. It goes down to about 20% but that's 12 hours. I also have brightness to its lowest setting as the screen is already bright as it is for me. Hope this improves your battery life.

Re: Palm Pre...Battery life? Can't stay charged for a day!

Thanks jon.  I have turned OFF everything I can think of GPS, Manual Email, BT, Location Services, WiFi, etc.  After a few minutes or so, the Pre went cold.  Seems to have worked right away.  So, I am going with this tomorrow to see if it makes it through the day.

Don't know about you guys.  But, I am tired of spending time fixing things on my Pre!!!  I have a life and I just want a phone that works, is that too much to ask?

Re: Palm Pre...Battery life? Can't stay charged for a day!

I'm not sure why there are so many CUSTOMERS trying to solve this problem while the sellers are doing nothing. I will resolve it this way.  I will wait for a fix. In the meantime I will be the WORST public relations nightmare Sprint and Palm have. I talk to dozens of people daily. No one will hear anything positive about this product. I went to my Sprint store today and had no luck. My battery life is 8 hours maximum and my clock can't even keep accurate time. This product is a piece of sh**.

In the CNET article, Palm sent them recommendations to increase battery life...one of them included turning ON WiFi so that information could be sent over wireless which according to Palm puts less train on the battery. Also,Palm recognized that AIM was draining battery life and claimed that a bug fix will be soon issued to address this.

Re: Palm Pre...Battery life? Can't stay charged for a day!

Having Wi-Fi on when you are near a good signal is easier on the battery. Leaving it on when you are not near a strong wi-fi signal will suck the battery dry in no time flat. I lost like 40% in 30-45 minutes after I left my office and forgot to shut off Wi-Fi. The phone kept trying to accire the router.

Just be sure to turn wi-fi on and off when appropriate and the battery will last longer.

Re: Palm Pre...Battery life? Can't stay charged for a day!

I shut the Wifi off this morning when I left my house, and my battery lasted a lot longer.  On the flip side I was on the phone this evening for 5 minutes, the phone itself got extremly warm.

I don't think this phone is a piece of junk, it really is the most sophisticated phone on the market, having 6 web browsers open while receiving email and talking on the phone, come on what other phone does that?

Still the fact that we are all reporting the issues will better enable Palm to address them.

I knew this was a possiblity  when I got this phone, Palm has to buck up now and support the issues, if they do that, than I'm happy.

If not I hope Sprint is prepared to swap my phone on a regular basis.

my $0.02... I read somewhere to make sure you update the network settings when you get into your "normal use" area..  I was getting horrible battery life and did this and now it's WAY better.  I haven't used bluetooth at all yet and very little WiFi, so...

Re: Palm Pre...Battery life? Can't stay charged for a day!

Disabling AIM did the trick for me. Right now it is 3:20 pm and by this time, with AIM signed on I would be in extreme need to charge my phone. Today without the AIM, its at 70%.
