Pixi seems dead

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I woke up yesterday morning too see that my Palm pixi was off, assuming it had gone flat over night i have tried to charge it up but no battery icon or charging took place.

I have a palm centro to so i took the pixi's battery out and charged it in there istead, after a few minutes the centro turned on and i then let the battery charge fully.

I have put the battery back into the Pixi, but am getting nothing at all, it will not power on and no lights come on!

I have again tried charging it via the touchstone and directly with USB but nothing...

I had a look at dmesg on my laptop and when the pixi is pluged in its just seen as a generic usb device! same wether the battery is in the pixi or not.

"[13682.013063] usb 2-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 20"

It will not connect via novaterm/com or webos doctor

Any suggestions of how to recover?

I did try the 6t's post but its just not turning on so not much help.

Hmm your PC is seeing something plugged in so there is a change.  Have you tried putting your device in debug mode:

  1. Back up your Palm Profile data. Open Backup . Then tap Back up now.
  2. Connect the USB cable to the AC charger, and plug the AC charger into a working outlet. Do not connect it to your device yet.
  3. Open Device Info .
  4. Tap Reset Options, and then tap Shut Down.
  5. Remove the battery. See instructions for Palm Pre and Pre Plus or Palm Pixi and Pixi Plus.
  6. While the battery is out, write down your serial number (S/N).
  7. Connect the USB cable to the device. Press and hold the SYM or up volume button.
  8. Re-insert the battery.
  9. Release the SYM or up volume button when the large USB icon appears. If you see the Palm logo instead, take out the battery and start over with step 7.
Do you see the big white USB logo?  If so, then try to run the webos doctor.

Re: Pixi seems dead

Unfortunately it does appear the device will need a repair or replacement :smileysad: .  Contact our phone support group or your carrier to get a repair/replacement.

Re: Pixi seems dead

I'm having same problem.  When I first got phone this past January, it would freeze & I saw on the forums that happened a lot to people with the Palm Pixi Plus.  Last night it just shut itself off I guess even though I had charged it all day on my computer (lost the plug part for the electrical outlet).  Today wouldn't do anything. Did the 6 troubleshooting steps and finally it actually came on after being plugged into my computer. After a few hours (where I saw that it was charged), I just picked it up and checked my emails and then I heard a ping and it dropped off and now can't turn on again & tried all the steps again.  Bad phone in my opinion. What do I expect for a "free" upgrade!

Re: Pixi seems dead

I'm on my fourth dead Pixi. I've had similar problems as most of the issues discussed on this site. I picked up my current one today and I never even got to place a single call before it went south. I'm annoyed with Sprint that they refused to allow me to change phones - I'm on my fourth Pixi since January - and I'm so disappointed in Palm that I will never trust another HP product again. I'm an incredibly patient and forgiving guy, but this has gotten under my skin. As I've stated before, this has been my worst consumer experience to date. I've actually gotten so used to not having a cell phone, I'm considering just doing without and treating myself to a wonderful dinner or concert each month for the money I'm not spending on complete frustration and wasted time. If you haven't already done so, I'd give up on Palm. HP should as well.

Re: Pixi seems dead

Now here's an update and a clincher. The fourth Pixi, which I had for less than twenty four hours and never even had a chance to make a call with? It's being generously replaced by Sprint with a . . . . new PALM PIXI. Unbelievable. I will NEVER do business with Sprint or Palm or HP or whatever the hell they want to call their piece of crap phones. Can anyone possibly imagine returning the same TV to a retailer FIVE TIMES? Me neither. Welcome to the dearth of telecom customer service.

Re: Pixi seems dead

I had to call customer service for them to trouble shoot to no avail.  They told me to go to a Verizon store for more troubleshooting.  I went on that Friday after work & they couldn't do anything either.  So they called for me and got them to send a replacement "refurbished" phone but since it was Fri, I wouldn't get it until Monday. If I wanted it Sat, I'd have to foot the cost of $20 to do so. Yeah, my fault their product is a piece of crap.  Got the new phone that Monday and brought it to the Verizon store to have them help me set up.  Used it for 4 days before the first "freeze up" which took about 24 hours to come back to life.
