Re: App catalog problems

If you purchased an unlocked Palm Pre in Europe using a SIM card from a wireless service provider from a country other than Germany, Ireland, Spain, or the UK, the error message
“App Catalog unavailable” appears when you open the App Catalog. Your Palm profile is associated with the country and wireless service provider of the SIM card in the phone when you created your profile. At the present time, apps are certified for Germany, Ireland, Spain, and the UK. App Catalog is unavailable unless your SIM card is from one of these four countries. To fix the problem, create a new Palm profile using a SIM card from a wireless service provider in Germany, Ireland, Spain, or the UK. Turn off your phone, inserted the new SIM card, turn the phone on, and perform a partial erase. After the phone restarts, create a new Palm profile. Once the profile is created, shut down the phone, insert your original SIM card, and restart the phone. Log in to the newly-created profile. Open App Catalog to see available apps.

Since the Update to 1.3.1 the App Catalog is not available anymore. After resetting, PocketMirror and Classic (both programs recently bought) are disappeared and that means: no data, syncing not possible with Outlook, no access to the PalmOS programs anymore. Palm Switzerland has no solution, the software suppliers say they can do nothing. So it's up to Palm, and please solve the problem quickly!

1.3.1. Included a country filter. Since Classic and Pocketmirror are currently only flagged as US only they will not show up in other app catalogs.

Re: App catalog problems

Thank you for your reply.

I've been a loyal palm user since the first palm pilot back in ... ages ago.

Time has come to leave and go.

Being such a loyal customer, I have bought my new Palm Pre, without even waiting for it to be distributed in my country, out of love and lust for the newborn jewel.

But I now find out that Palm does not care about me, and is actually trying to make my life harder.

I cannot have new software, and probably soon, in the next release, you will inhibit me to update my o.s. !!! (because I am a loyal customer, but I live in a different country)

Ok, It took me years to decide to change my treo 650, and now, time has come to forget Palm altogether.

Thank you Palm, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

It's time for Android.

I'll be putting my Palm Pre on Ebay tomorrow, but of course on the GERMAN version!!!!!!

bye.

and old friend from Italy.

Re: App catalog problems

I have this issue too -

I am a US customer - got the phone from Sprint -- using it on the Sprint Network - on webos 1.3.1

I can open the catalog but has soon as I try to download I get the "not available try again later issue"

I have done a restart -

I really would like to avoid a pratial erase...

Re: App catalog problems

I was having the same problem with my new Palm-Pre. It stopped being able to access the App Catalog after about a week of use. I corrected the problem using the following steps:

1. Go to Device Info

2. Click Reset Options

3. Click Partial Reset

I was very reluctant to do this as I did not want to loose any of the apps, data, or configurations that I had on my phone. I am happy to report that when the phone rebooted it reacquired (from my Paml Profile backup) all of the applications that I had downloaded from the App store, restored all of my contacts, and data. The only thing that I needed to do was re-enter my user ID's and Passwords. It was very painless. Hopefully this is a one time occurence. If this is a common occurence it could drive me to get another phone.

Re: App catalog problems

Ohh, yeah I should mention that I am in the US using Sprint for my service provider. Sorry to hear about all the problems my European frineds are having. I did see a neat workaround in one of the threads above however.
