So, I've seen scattered here and there folks that say they can't update to the latest version (1.0.4 as of this writing) of webOS.  In an attempt to get everyone with the issue all in one place, I'm going to start this thread, and close any of the others I see on the subject (and try to direct the random posts to here as well).

First of all, everyone should read joek71's excellent post on how the update process works.  Thanks, joek71!

Please make sure to include the following info in your posts:

1. Do you have access to wifi?
2. Do you have or bring your phone into an area with EVDO coverage (as evidenced by the Ev icon)?
3. Exact steps you follow and any (if applicable) error messages you see.  Posting screenshots (hit Orange+Shift+P to create a screenshot in your Photos application) always is nice.
4. If you are NOT on 1.0.4, what version of your webOS are you on? (Device Info app shows this, as of this writing it should show this:  "VERSION    Palm webOS 1.0.4")

Hey guys. I'm running into an issue when trying to update webOS to the latest 1.0.4 version. I have access to WiFi and EVDO, I'm currently on version 1.0.3 and my battery life is at 100%. I'm adding the screenshots of the pre-download update screen and post download/validation error message I get.

I've noticed that the size of 1.0.4 on most of the sites shows as 12MB, but my pre says it's 3MB:

 After it downloads and runs validation I get the following message:

I've tried updating many timessince the day the update came out with the same result over and over. I've tried doing a soft reset from the Pre and also restarting it completely, but no luck.

5.   Have you jailbroken or in any way modified your phone with non-Palm firmware/mods?

No mods whatsoever although I am getting pretty tired with it and considering rooting it to see if I can find the bad file and kill it

Hello, I had origianlly posted my issue elsewhere but was directed here. So I read the informative how the update process works and everything checks out except when running the updater app it just endlessly checks for updates although I am still running 1.0.3. I have only had my Pre for little more than a week and have only downloaded apps from the catalog and added a few mp3s from my computer. No mods or hacks of any type. Here is  screen shot from a few minutes ago, this is how it has been for hours and this is about the third time I have attempted to update with the same results.

Update: after a short chat online with Sprint I was advised to bring my Pre to a Sprint store with a technician. Hmmm.

I had the same problem with the updater just running continuously. I simply restarted my pre to resolve the issue. It still does that every now and then when i run the updater but after a restart and running the updater again it works fine. so try running the updater and if it does it again restart your phone and run the updater.

I have the same issues as Jajajij

As for the initial questions:

wifi: yes

EVDO coverage: Yes

Steps/screenshots: Same as Jajajij's

Version: Still 1.0.3

Hacks/jailbroken: Nope, brand new phone. 

It appears that I cannot download any applications right now either they simply "fail to install" I assume its because my software isn't updated.

 might be a little impatient here, but anyone know of any possible fixes on this? Its a pain to not be able to download apps.I

I called sprint, they forwarded me to another number, then i got forwarded to palm support, then another number for palm support, finally after talking to that person they had me to and download webos doctor from www.palm.com/rom. I'm currently downloading it, but as i understand it's going to erase my info, then when i log back in it'll restore my data, but not my apps so I'll have to re-download.

I had tried that after I posted last night. The program would not run because it wouldn't reconize that the phone was plugged into the computer. *shrug*
