@james:
If you've installed anything from outside the app catalog such as Preware, this could also be interfering with your ability to update. Uninstall all patches and programs not downloaded through the app catalog and try again. I also see from your screenshot you're in airplane mode. Have you tried updating through your carrier's data network?
If you have and do not have anything installed from outside the app catalog, there is only one further troubleshooting step we would use to attempt to download the update, and that would be a partial erase. A partial erase will not affect the USB drive, however phone settings, text messages, call logs, etc. are not backed up.
If after a partial erase, you are still unable to update, the only way to update will be through the webOS Doctor available at www.palm.com/rom
Hope this helps,

Hi,
The custom software has only been installed in the last week - I haven't been able to update since OS 1.3.1 came out - months ago.
The screenshot is in Aeroplane mode, but you'll notice that wifi is enabled - I did this to ensure that my phone would use my wifi connection. I've rebooted the phone, removed the decompressed files through USB and done everything bar a reset - because I don't want to lose my personal data that Palm does not allow me to back up.
I don't want to use the OS doctor - I want and like my personal stuff...

You're in an unfortunate position, then. For situations like yours, wiping the device and/or using the webOS Doctor tool are the best way to get updated (and the ONLY way if the normal OTA update process isn't working for you).
Unfortunately, this means losing the things not backed up and having to re-enter them (mostly third party application data). I hear you: I don't like it either but if you want a working, updated phone, its your only choice. ![]()

Ok, I've installed the latest update using the OS doctor and it's worked - I'm now at 1.4.1.
I've lost all my personal data, but I can cope with that - it's ok, I've at least got all my contacts backed up.
Except that I don't - the backup hasn't worked depite the message saying that it has and anything that I thought had been backed up - hasn't.
Great.
Thanks Palm.

Yes, we (Verizon users) all do. For some reason, Verizon seems to be sitting on the update. It is quite aggravating.

Another Verizon subscriber here. Has anyone heard when the upgrade to 2.1.0 Web OS will occur?
It is most frustrating.

No.. all we can do is wait, I guess. I'm hoping its soon, because there are a few new apps that I really want/need.
