Contact Search for Palm Pre

[ Edited ]
I would like to be able to search my Palm Pre Contacts by any word in the contact file (e.g. City, State, etc.) not by just the contact name.  Is this possible, or has the request been made to Palm for a future update?

Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

Re: Contact Search for Palm Pre

Hello donkohn and welcome to the Palm forums.

I just tried searching my Pre's contacts database by using Universal Search with the name of my home town.  I was able to bring up records for the fire department, police department, local businesses, and people in my Contacts database who live in the same town as me.

The good news is that the feature you are talking about has already been included in Palm webOS 1.2.1.  Have you used the Update application on your Pre to make sure that you have the latest version of webOS installed on your phone?

Re: Contact Search for Palm Pre

Wow - this is a BIG issue for me! I have in most of my 1000 contacts a keyword entered into the Notes field, this is a legacy from my Palm OS days. It lets me do this: I can't remember the person's name but I remember that they are an honest mechanic. So I used to do a key word search for "mechanic" and only those names in my Contacts with "mechanic" would appear. VERY useful and very INTUITIVE. How the $%^&* do I do this with WebOS?

How do I categorize my Contacts? Doesn't seem possible. Do I just resign myself to not ever having my custom categories again?

Also, if you care to answer this too: how do I port over my 1200 memos with their categories?

Please, at least answer the first question  ;^)

Alan, I'm interested in hearing more about this. My Pre will not search contacts on any word except the first and last word in the name field. Even if I have "Debbie and Gary Jones" I cannot search for "Gary". I can only search for "Debbie" or "Jones" and I can't search any words in any other fields.

Re: Contact Search for Palm Pre

Hello MemphiDoug,

As far as I know, this is still an issue in Palm webOS 1.3.5 on the Pre, and presumably the Pixi also.

Re: Contact Search for Palm Pre

I too do the same thing a carry over from my Palm pilot days.. I use the google contact list and so far the only way I can do the "Key" word search is on my computer.  I would like to see them fix that in any upcoming software upgrades...have you gotten any better feed back.

@94ragtop:

I have responded to your similar thread regarding searching additional contact fields. Please refer to that post, as well as requesting the feature at www.palm.com/feedback .

Re: Contact Search for Palm Pre

Hello.  I am new owner of the Pre Plus.  Does anyone know if the problem has been rectified that would allow me to search my contacts ny using just a series of letter or digits...for example, if I wanted to locate all of my contacts in a particular area code or city?
